I went to court to give my reason for driving after 12 (I'm still on my provisional) and the judege reduced the fine by 1/2 + court fees, which amounted to $23. I ended up paying $48 for a $50 ticket and wasted 3 hours of my day. Court SUCKS!

They're there for a reason. Disrepectful brats like you who believe the laws don't apply to them.

Um ok... I had to drive after 12 to take my grandmother home from my birthday party... It doesn't carry any points so I don't think it's on my record...

Does the law list transporting grandma as an exception? If not, pay your just desserts and learn something from the experience. You knew you were violating the law, and were willing to take the chance. Accept the responsibility of your actions.

Well basically my mom and I both thought that it was ok if I had parental permission... the cop that pulled me over said that I could probably get by on that... too late now

I understand he's letting off some steam. But it's the underlying, "I'm a victim", attitude that has become so damn pervasive in our society I'm ready to blow a gasket! Hmmmm......do I sound angry? Perturbed? Unstable? Must of been my father's uncle's neighbor who, when I was eight, didn't give me the cookie I wanted.
I guess I have a free pass to go postal on the members of my community.

Sorry to hear you got a ticket. It sucks that you spent 3 hours in court. I know how that feels since I was also stuck in court for a traffic ticket for about the same duration since the judge was late. Though I can relate to your situation, I have to agree with Carbo that you broke the rules and you have to face the consequences. Exceptions can't be made, even for grandma's. If exceptions were made, laws would be broken all the time. It's cool to vent here and we all understand.

<< Huh? >>

okie...let me spell it out for you (in your own words): "Must of been my father's uncle's neighbor who, when I was eight, didn't give me the cookie I wanted. I guess I have a free pass to go postal on the members of my community" and "But it's the underlying, "I'm a victim", attitude that has become so damn pervasive in our society I'm ready to blow a gasket!"

Carbo, I'm with you.

And it's pretty obvious that these kids just don't get it. You are just wasting your breath.

edit: Oh, what the heck. I'll throw you kids a bone, here is the sarcasm:

Hmmmm......do I sound angry? Perturbed? Unstable? Must of been my father's uncle's neighbor who, when I was eight, didn't give me the cookie I wanted.

Just because it's the law, doesn't necessarily mean it's a good law or right 100% of the time. It's idiots that follow the law straight as an arrow, 100%, no exceptions, that screw this country up.

Although the court fees and fine suck, I do have to agree that the cop had the right to pull you over and you were in the wrong. Since you were aware of the provisional rule (I assume this is some kind of permit before a full fledged license?) because you asked your parents beforehand, and still knowingly tried to skirt the provision, you were rightfully held liable for the consequences.

I'm curious, though, what exactly this provision is? If it's like a provision on a learner's permit, there definitely are reasons for restricting inexperienced drivers to daytime driving. My local paper did a study on teenage drivers and accident rates, and accidents were about twice as likely between 12a-6a and around 6p-7p. And since the cop said you might be able to avoid the fine with parental permission, does the provision explicitly allow this or is this a "I heard a friend do this and be OK" kind of thing?

Geez........so many idiots, so little time.
Genocide and RaDragon, before you two chimps continue with the congratulatory pats on the back, I direct you to PG's post. (Thanks, PG).

<< In all fairness, it's hard to sense the sarcasm in "huh?" >>

God help us! HAHAHAHAHA!! Surely, you were joking about "Huh" being sarcasm?? Sigh........

Now, that's a quote to be proud of. Hell, that deserves a thread all by itself!

Ok man, what if he was staying at his Grandma's house, 2 am he gets up for a drink and as he walks past his grandma's room he notices her having spaz attack. Looks like she had a heart attack. He tries to call 911, uh oh the power is gone, must have been that Tornado from earlier in the day. Well since it's against the law for him to drive, he might as well go back to sleep and catch a few more hours of sleep until the law permits him to drive his grandma to the hospital. We wouldn't want to break the law now would we?

That's rich! Even the fantasy world that comes out of Hollywood couldn't make that into a believable movie.
