1) What is the best heatsink/fan available for the p4? I'm hoping to find something that I can use to mount an 80mm fan on, and I was looking at the Swiftech MCX4000. Can anyone point me to any reviews of this heat sink or have any experience with it? Or any other good hs/fan combos? Preferably something not too loud, and not water cooling.
2) What is the db rating for the stock intel hs/fan? Right now it seems like that's the loudest thing in my system.
3) With the Panaflo fans (the quieter 80mm ones), can you stick a wire into the 3rd slot and use it to monitor the fan speed? I bought a few from bgmicro because they only cost $2.50 each but I'd like to be able to monitor their rpm, and these only have 2 wires but 3 slots.
ok here's a tip:
If you have more than 1 hard drive (or even just 1) then go into your computer's power management (in the control panel) and adjust it so that it powers down your hard drives after say 5 or 10 minutes. If you don't access your drive a lot then it should help to quiet down your computer. I checked mine out and found out that my two storage drives (both ibm deskstars) were putting out a lot of noise, and I don't access them too frequently. So I just set it to power down my hard drives after 10 minutes and cut back quite a bit of noise. Now I need to silence the damn intel hs/f.
