Country song that's well done..

A friend of mine has recently gotten into country, and I don't get it. I like a lot of the instrumentation. but it goes to hell as soon as they open their mouthes. There's a small handful of vintage country artists I like, but for the most part, I'm not a fan. I do like the derivatives like newgrass and Americana, as well as mountain and Piedmont string band, but new country? meh...

I have yet to discover a genre of music that doesn't have a least a few tunes that I have heard that I like, even if I never seek out the genre to listen too on a regular basis.

If you enjoy music you are really doing yourself a disservice if you don't, at least occasionally, look at types of music that are out of your comfort zone.

I have to agree. I may mostly listen to heavy music, but it's not the only thing I listen to. For starters, there are just some fun country songs!

Good point, I kinda stumbled across this one while the content is somewhat a staple "broken heart" country style I dug his vocals and the excellent guitar work. Not a groundbreaking deal or anything close to but well done and produced.

I'm not much for country music generally. It usually has too much emphasis on the vocals and lyrics to the detriment of making the rest of the music interesting to listen to. What country I do like is usually the songs that tell an interesting story. Reba Mcentire, Vicki Lawrence, Johnny Cash, and Charlie Daniels all have songs like this that I like. I'm lukewarm on Blake Shelton's "Ol' Red", but at least he's continuing the tradition in contemporary country.

Ol' Red - Blake Shelton

Reba Mcentire - Fancy

Vicki Lawrence - The night the lights went out in georgia (considered "Gothic country" lol)

Reba Mcentire - The night the lights went out in Georgia (perhaps even better than Vicki Lawrence's version. unofficial version because the music video has stupid voiceover.)

Edit: Alison Krauss and Union station are freaking AMAZING as well.

There's nothing out of the ordinary about that song. It sounds to me like you like a bit of country. It's nothing to be ashamed of. You should broaden your horizons. I just realized a few years ago that I like alot of country music.

Rap? I agree with what you said, I just don't consider rap music.

I do. If something's very popular, I approach it with extreme skepticism. My latest popular choice is Lana Del Rey. I kind of dig her sound.

I tend to listen to older music (20 to 2000 years old) because I've rarely found a station either on radio or online that offered what I'm looking for. The number one requirement is that the band be able to play their instruments at a level that demonstrates mastery to anyone who listens whether they like the music or not.
