Country Music - Love it or Hate it?

I like some of the old stuff. country that is well done and has feeling.
*new* or "young" country makes me want to vomit. it's like they took everything bad about country and mixed it with everthing bad about pop music. the outlaws are rolling in their graves.

Are we talking about country music, or this newer country rock style ala Garth Brooks? Big difference.

I used to hate it, but I've grown to like some of it over time. Other than the blues, no other music fits the mood quite as right when you go out to drink some beer and play pool (as we used to do all the time in college.)

I like the older stuff (Cash, Willie, etc.) but this new country (post 1990, Garth Brooks stuff) is fvcking horrible.

There is a reason why people use "rock" to descirbe something cool. "Man that roXXorz"

I don't see anyone saying, "Dude that totally couNNtryorz" do you?? j/k 😛

Onto a more serious argument. Country music is part of the reason most of the world hates us. War on Iraq? No. Forcing Democracy? Nope. Its the orthodox christian philosophy some in the south hold dear, and the music that springs from people with such philosophies. After all, Country and Rap are the only forms of popular music that you can really call "American". As both genre's were started here. The difference is that Country never made it to the rest of the world. There may be one or two country music stations that aren't in the US, and there is a reason why no other culture can get into this music.

Where's the "Fvcking despise that sh1t" option?

Thats what I was wondering. So I chose to make arguments on why Country music sucks. And knivox has just given me more fuel for the fire 😀

Alt-country is pretty good.

Ryan Adams, Wilco, Neko Case, etc.

So Wilco is Country by your definition?? LoL. I've heard others refer to it as "alt-country" too. That just goes to show you how much Country has come to follow rock music. Wilco has WAYYY too much solo guitar, and improv type guitar work in their music to be considered "country". Its rock, now if its some form of new rock that lends part of its lyrics to country, fine if you want to think that way. But its not country.

Most popular country, isn't country - the genre has become so boring they have redefined what it encompasses. I heard some newer Shania Twain the other day, only way to describe it is POP at its finest. More synths then some of Madonna's new stuff. Next thing you know, Dr. Dre will be doing production work for Brooks and Dun - and Ferry Corsten will be doing remixes of Clint Black's latest hit.

On the bright side, there sure are a lot of hotties doing Country music.

But, what genre do you call them? Adult Contemporary? Americana? You could add Lyle Lovett, Lucinda Williams, and Patty Griffin to that list.

Reggae, blues, rock, pop, dance, techno, classical, big band, jazz and more - YES.

Country - hell f^cking no. I would rather hear a cat coughing up a furball than any of the country songs on the radio today.

I picked It's ok, would rather listen to something else. It's much, much better than metal though. 😛

I like some of the older "Country" music.

Johnny Cash,Jim Reeves
Hank Snow
The Everly Brothers
Elvis,
Merle Haggard
and a lot of others.

Some of the newer country music I don't like.
I listen to alot of different music.

I like some old country. When it was actually country music, not this pop crap they produce now.

Even though I've lived in Nashville for almost 30 years, I don't own or listen to any Country. I don't hate it, and seeing any country artist live (if it's free!) is entertaining. But if I hear about Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, or Gretchen Wilson one more time, I'm gonna puke. Faith Hill too at one time.

Thankfully Nashville is also home to many famous rock artists and we have lots of good live rock shows here.

Amen to that. Most people don't know how much musical variety there is here in Nashville. I certainly don't listen to country, nor do any of my friends.
