My wife and I just became suburbanites are haven't been quick to leave behind ordering out every night. As you can imagine, this is an expensive way to live and in our new environs a limited one as well. Well, we took the first step in changing our ways last night. A rep from Country Gourmet Foods came by and sold us on their grocery plan.
In short, you get six months of meats, pasta, vegetables and other assorted groceries delivered in one shot. You need a dedicated freezer (in your basement or whereever...) and they don't supply fresh produce, milk, cheese, eggs or juice. Each piece of meat is individually vacuum sealed and flash frozen - a process that allows them to stay fresh indefinitely if kept frozen. If you have ever had Omaha Steaks, you know what I am talking about.
Now, since my wife and I do so much ordering out, we do not have a good handle on what groceries REALLY cost over the long haul, so we are a bit worried that we are over paying for the service (about $80/week for 2 people ~4 meals per week) Nevertheless, for the convenience and quality and the fact that this will force us to stop ordering food, we are going to give it a shot - at least for the first 6 months.
Anyone ever heard of these guys or use a similar service?
