counterstrike launcher randomly (and occasionally) crashes

Every now and then when I try to connect to a CS server, I will see the desktop with a black window in the corner of the screen. The game is obviously loading because of the HD activity, but then it will come up with an error message saying "Cstrike Launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close...." and then I will get kicked back to the desktop. OS is winXP pro. I didn't seem to have this problem until I upgraded to 1.5. DOes anyone else have this problem, or know a fix?
