Counterstrike: Is it worth picking up now?? or is it too late? I'm buying it, now Which one?

i've never played counterstrike before. i'm looking for a new game to replace my beloved SC:BW. WCIII just doesn't do it for me. i'm looking for a good online game. i was watching some kids play counterstrike the other day and it looked ok. wondering if it is too late to try and pick up counterstrike now?

i've decided. i'm going to go out and buy a copy. NOW, do i buy the Platinum? the half life: counterstrike? Or just Half Life.

I can get Half life for $19.99 at eb games. do i buy that and just download the mods i want?
 
Too late by approx 2.5 years. It's just a cheat-fest based on everything I've heard. I loved it in 2000 but then cheating got prevalent and I tried it again late 2001 and it was essentially unplayable. If people weren't cheating others were accusing them of cheating. Just not worth it.
 
Check out Return to Castle Wolfenstein. It's been out awhile, but I still see plenty of people on the game servers. Also the sequel/expansion pack is coming out soon.
 
forget it, like others said, unless you play on a private server - "all your base belong to n00bs", even it quit and i've been playing since it came out as HL.
 
Buy Half-Life (you should have it already) & download CounterStrike, if you want to play..but also get Day of Defeat. 😀
 
It's not to late... there are still tons of players.
My friend recently got into it... lol. I told him almost 4 years ago to play the game but nooooooooooo he wouldnt but he got peer pressured in when he attended a computer/geek college hahaha.


There are still tons of servers/players... just pick like 2-3 above avg servers, go to them daily and it should be fun.
 
I dun really understand WHY people still play this game. It is so old--gameplay sucks compared to recent shooters.

Don't get it, get BF1942 or if you want something really realistic (and fun) get Raven Shield

The graphics in that game are so horrible. If you want a good old game, get Starcraft BW or Warcraft II, its only $9 a cd at walmart and you can play for hours over battle.net.

I disagree. CS still has great, unique gameplay. ALthough they still need to make the AWP less powerful, it is truly one of the best games of all time. The graphics really aren't that bad either. Try turning on AA and they look pretty good. plus, I still have a few servers I play on where nobody cheats.
 
yeah, i started this year, its fun as hell

ofcourse i mostly play lan with 10 ppl in my co-op so its alot more funner there

I don't really like counterstrike on internet play. but that game was THE game for lan parties a couple years ago. haven't played it since the 1.4 patch came out.
 
Eh...don't listen to these people who said there are lots and lots of h4x0rs around. They probably just got pwned and are angry about it. H4x are a rarity these days due to the ease of getting an admin through irc or even autokicking due to hlguard or csguard.

Find a few or so servers you ping pretty good on, and regular on it. In about 3 months, you'll get a feel for the game and will start developing map-specific strategies. Just keep on practicing and then you'll probably become a decent player.

Heres a 3 step program:

1. Learn to aim.
2. Learn the recoil.
3. Aim for the head.

Figure out those 3, and you're a l33t h4x0rs. GJ!

CS isn't the best game graphic wise, but who plays games just for the graphics? I didn't give a flying fvck about the graphics in ut2003 about 10 min into the game because I was immersed in the gameplay.

And another thing, who the heck buys cs? why not buy hl and download cs and dod and ns?

Although the cash prizes keep getting bigger at CPL for CS tournaments, I think it's too late to get "into" CS. All the pros that always end up in the top 10 have been playing since CS came out.

But if you want to play for fun go for it. I'm sure you'll enjoy all the aspiring player filled pubs.
