i posted this in software, but it's dead...and since i'm addicted to the game, help urgently needed...nerdery.

I just installed win2k and ran counter-strike....other than a3d not working, everything is fine...suddenly, i go to play it and pow - it doesn't work anymore...this is the problem:

when i click to refresh a list of servers the seconds go by super fast...and when i try to connect to a server, the seconds are counting so fast that i can't connect because it just fails after four tries....and NO, i am not using the speed cheat - this is a clean install of win2k and i have not downloaded the speed cheat...

the only thing that gets me is that it just worked an hour ago...i rebooted and changed anything that i had previously changed and still - same crap...i even reinstalled half-life, the patch and cs...

damn

Hehehe...this happened to me also when moving to Win2k for the first time. You could dual boot Win98SE, or do what I did. Use Gamespy.

Ah Kali. Now there is a program current online gamers owe more to than they know. I remember using Kali configured in DOS to play C&C back in early 95' before Kali 95 came out. How ironic; 6 years later Red Alert 2, the most recent release in the C&C series will only play over Westwoods WOL server. No TCP/IP or Modem. Some have been able to get it to work over Kali but I haven't.

So what does this response have to do with CS on W2K? Not a thing. Sorry.

Humm... I have used Win2k before and never had this problem. What DX version are you using? Run dxdiag and make sure no files are missing. This happened to me before when trying to update to DX8. Also try opengl settings. I know this is strange but try defragging your hard drive. Wierd things have happened with win2k on me with CS and defragging fixed the problem many times. Hope this helps. :)

ah, thanks...i'll try those things out and see what happens..

yeah, i thoguth of the exact same thing and used gamespy, but gave me this error..unfortunately, the only thing that works is quickstart...it just keeps trying servers until it gets lucky and hits one fast enough...

win98se dual boot is my next step...
