Hey all,

I came across some old software from way back when I used to have more time to play videogames and whatnot, and found Half-Life (yeah, the original one). I remembered lots of good times playing Counter-Strike with friends, and I got to wondering if the game even still exists. I never even had it installed on this computer, but I'm trying to figure out if it's worth dusting off the old disc.

And just to clarify, I'm talking about the CS on the original Half-Life 1 engine.

What's Counter-Strike? Sounds like a DOS-based game or something, and no one owns a sh1tty enough computer to play those types of games anymore.

Its popularity hasn't taken much of a hit since the earlier days. Still the only PC game I'm decent at, and the only one I play regularly.

Ok, I must be retarded.

I reinstalled Half-Life. I want to play Counter-Strike, apparently the latest version is 1.6 . I can't find version 1.6 ANYWHERE on Counter-Strike.net for download....all they have is Steam. So I downloaded and installed Steam, but I can't find any option there for downloading CS if you already have Half-Life installed....

Argh...someone wanna fill me in on what's happened the last couple years? Used to be simpler...

go to Games...then double-click Counter Strike.
edit: Or uninstall steam..then download the steam install file with cs already included.

filename is "steamcs_install.exe" i believe.

Anyway, it's not too tough honestly. Just use common sense.

BTW, CS is way different from the way it used to be back in the beta days. Those were some good days. It sucks now, IMO.

Got bored of pubs in CS back in 1.0/1.3 Best part of CS for me is the PUGs/Scrimming aspect 5v5, a lot more strategy & teamwork involved.
