It's very very annoying when they have them stupid sprites floating all over the places or the "Admin" spams the "admin" channel with all the crappy web hosting services offered by the crappy company.

When I run into servers like that I just log off and find another server. It's not that hard.

I refuse to put up with that crap.

Completely different. The new advertisements are from valve, and you will see them in every single server.

Lol, did not notice that. Guess I won't be seeing it for a little while longer then.

Are there legal implications for Valve showing ads in other peoples servers? People pay good money to run a server, and Valve collects revenue from these ads. Does any of this revenue go back to the server owners/renters?

That's a good question, but I don't think anyone is ever going to challange it in court.

One day though, some end user is going to compile a massive class action lawsuit againts all EULAs and really stick it to the software industry and end their facist nazi ways for good.

Half-Life 1 Engine and Counter-Strike Update Released
March 5, 2007, 1:47 pm - Jason Ruymen

Updates to the Half-Life 1 Engine and Counter-Strike have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Half-Life 1 Engine

* Allow screen resolutions up to 2560x1600
* Fixed player names with really wide characters getting ellipses and being indistinguishable from one another scoreboard

Funny they forgot to mention the advertisements....

Why does this piss people off? Personally, if it helps keep servers running (not necessarily in this case) then I'm all for it. As long as it doesn't interfere with the game too much, it's a great way to raise revenue.

It pisses me off because I paid for the goddamn game - AND THEN THEY CHANGED IT WITHOUT ME AGREEING TO IT.

WTF.. I hope people file a class-action lawsuit. I'm so goddamn sick of credit card, cell phone, cable/internet, and now GAMING companies changing agreements and 'opting in' a customer whether or not they agree to it.

Good luck with that. I'm sure in the ToS they state they can change the game however they want without letting you know or anything. Essentially those ToS's are so packed with everything under the sun that I'm not surprised it doesn't include a clause about selling your soul to the developers.

Some ads are okay, but the huge banners just suck. It's okay if a little bit is on the wall as long as it looks like it could be built in and it fits. It just has to look natural.

Raising revenue? Valve is advertising their own product.

I'll bet it's written in the EULA that you clicked through.

So where is Dust2 supposed to be set? Because I don't remember the last time I saw a Portal sign in a desert in Egypt (or wherever it is). It doesn't look natural.

Yeah, it looks like they didn't put any effort at all into make them look native/natural.

I think the 1.6 community is still > CS:S community.

Heh I'm only kidding. I'm a former CS1.6 player and a former CS:S player, these days I play a little DoD:S and nothing else from Valve. I'm against this on principle, and I'm strongly anticipating TF2. I can tell you for sure they won't be getting an EP2/TF2 purchase out of me if there is any advertising or even rumours of future advertising in those games.

Does TF2 have a release date? I remember hearing about it in like... 2002???

Heh, I remember when they first announced that they were intending to add these advertisements. I'm pretty sure they claimed they would not look like they were out of place.

Really lol?
It literally looks like they just pasted it there and didn't even try--like it took them 2 minutes.

Why not make it look weathered a little, or something??

You already paid for the game once. Soon, the computer enemies will take a break from the fighting to pitch Taco Bell or the brand new Buick Rendezvous to you.

The way this country is going, they want to ensure that you're a captive audience. Ensure that people have nowhere to go where they're free of advertising. Breed the super consumer.
