with a gig of RAM, ati 9800 pro and a 3200+ A64, what settings should i have on CS:S? i want perfect playing, so skipping on shudders. right now i have it at 1280x1024, all on high. Trilinear, no antialaising. Other ppl with simialar systems, what are ur settings at?

i got a similar system. 1280x1024x no AA or AF, all high except for low shadows and simple reflections. runs good w/ frame drops to 30 in huge fights. but game looks awesome =D

It automatically detects your hardware and sets the settings to what will run smoothly. It's pretty accurate, but you can drop a couple settings and raise others like I do. I turn reflections and shadows down while turning textures up.

I have a now aging 2.3 athlon /w 512 ram and a 9800 pro.

I run 1280x960, 4xAA, 16xAF, auto detect the rest.

Pretty smooth, never have problems even in complicated scenes.

BTW, is there a way to show fps in css?

If it already runs fine, then what else do you want? 😕 If you want super smooth in all cases, then just run 640x480 with lowest everything. Duh. 😛

Mine is almost the same setup as yours, and I'm running at 1600x1200, settings all on high, 2xAA and 2xAF averaging 57 fps. I didn't think it would have run that good, but it does. Some areas drops the fps down into the 30-40 range, but it doesn't happen often. I LOVE how friendly the engine is to hardware....

2700+ 9800pro@XT I run 1280x960 4xAA 8xAF in HL-2 I play without AA in CS:S as I don't find it gives something extra, nad it should be as smooth as possible.

alright, thanx for all the input. i guess it must be my monitor then. cuz i have it on all auto detect and like i get little splits in the game where theres like a distinct diferance between the bottom middle and top of the screen. only for like half a second though, it just kinda bothers me.

Something must be wrong there Kai920. I get decent (60 for hardly any action, drops to about 30 during big fights) fps, and I only have a slightly faster CPU and half the RAM, plus I play at 1280x1024. I turn a couple of details down like shadows, but I think I have the regular DX9 reflections, which only made it slowdown a lot in singleplayer. I also play with my 9800P overclocked slightly, but probably not to XT speeds.

Hmmm I don't know what it is then. Maybe I just shouldn't expect too much.

I'll try a reformat sometime with the latest Catalyst drivers...
