Counter Strike Source FPS Problems

I am really getting annoying by the fact that counter strike source cant run at a constant 72 fps on my computer. At 640/480 with the lowest possible settings and updated driver, I still cant get constant 72 fps. It dips down to 30 sometimes even 20 fps during intense gunfights. Is source really that demanding or am I missing something. (I have done all nexessary spyware/driver updates.) Do I need to get Omega drivers? Suggestions are very welcome.

70 constant with everything on lowest possible with fps_max 70. But during firefights and in hallfways, it turns into a slideshow

No, I don't mean while playing. There's a "Video Stress Test" that's part of the CSS menu. Have you run it?

Yes. WIth fps_max 70 i get 70. Im well aware of the tiles and water models of that test. I can peak at 120 during that test without fps max on.

i suggest the newest omega drivers (version 4.10 beta). make sure u clean any other drivers on your system. and usually, performance problem comes from motherboard drivers not being installed. run dxdiag and make sure all the 3 "directx features" are enabled under the display tab.
