Dear Friends,
I've just built my first AMD system having been a confirmed Intel user for years. This is also the first time I've used a Nvidia card for a few years. In terms of my system's performance, I'm very agreeably surprised.
My build went reasonably well, although I hate the location of the 24 socket on my Epox 9NPA+Ultra mobo. Windows Xp installed and updated OK as did all my hardware, with the exception of the USB ports which don't seem to recognise my Microsoft Force Feedback Pro 2 joystick. Very sad as my main game diversion is FS 2004.
My son's main interest in life is playing Counter Strike on line which is where my main hassle is. Counter Strike and Half Life 2 regularly crash with a sound loop. I've been to Steam and followed all the solutions posted on the support site but without success. Far Cry plays like a dream. Ive tried a number of sound and graphics drivers, doing a full safe mode uninstall and re-install. I've run Memtest 86 and my Corsair RAM runs without error. The highest temperature my CPU reaches is 50c under full load. I have a 530W PSU and my voltages are stable. I've tried running Half Life 2 without sound but it simply won't load. I've tried running the Steam games (both online and single player) but with the same result. It may be possible to play Counter Strike for an hour before it crashes with the sound loop but often it crashes after a couple of minutes. This happens whether the system is hot or cold.
I know that I am a member of a sad band of posters with an identical problem searching the web for a solution and now I'm stumped.I post this more in hope than expectation.
Many thanks for your attention.
