Counter Strike Qustion.

I have previosly owned Half life and I want to get Counter Strike to play at the local lan party. I am not familiar with counter strike, I am going to get ti tommorw, do i have to have the original version of half life to play it or is counter strike a stand alone multiplayer, Thanx
 
Both.

CS can be downloaded from various sites as an add-on to Half-Life.
or
CS can be purchased as a stand-alone product...meaning you dont need the original Half-Life or its updates.

Just d/l it if you have the original HL
 
I sold my original HL before they came out wiht any mods. I will just buy it tommorow, maybe i will get the platmium pack?
 
just buy the cheapest HL you can !!

I wouldnt recommend buying CS stand-alone, I prefer the d/l version. Although they are the same, I just prefer the d/l version....especially if j00 have a fast connection.
 
yes, just buy the cheapest that you can. You can download all the stuff that comes in the "Platnium, Game of the Year, etc" editions.
 
are you on a slow modem? if you are then you're better off buying it since the download to counter strike might take a day to download. If you have HL then your set, all you need is CS which is FREE, so i dont understand why you;re going to go waste your $$$$. Do you know someone on DSL or Cable? tell them to download it and burn the dam thing

but if you say your going to a LAN party then im sure someone from your friends might have it and you dont really need to verify the WON serial # to play in a LAN party. just install it and enter the code and promise your friend you'll unistall it. I actually bought HL in order to play, (first time in many years where I bought a game) all worth it. good luck

You will get TFC with the updates fot Half-Life. Just a warning though, I have been addicted to Counter-Strike since Beta 3. I have played other games in the last year and a half but keep comming back to CS.
 
Be aware also that any retail CS you buy that you will still need to download the latest patch, and the latest map packs. :frown:
 
I am a gaming god. It doesn't take me long to get used to a game. I am getting tommrow and will play it till sat to get ready.

Youre gonna need longer than a few days to get good at CS. It took me about 2 months of playing 6-8 hours a day to get really good and I am generally good at games.

Hardest things are aiming at the head, jumping and crouching while in battle, and learning every nook and cranny of the maps.

Well I play Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, and Serios Sam everyday. I am very good at first person shooters, so it should be no problem for me to get acustomed in a few days. Even if i don't i can still play there and get better.
 
read the manual, it helps and ask some people to watch you as you play. theyll start hurling comments at you cuz youre a first timer but listen to them for what its worth. just my 2 cents

These games are VERY differnet than CS. You'll be able to pick it up quickly, but you may become frustrated because of gun recoil and damage. Buying your guns takes some getting used to, but its quite cool once you get it done. CS is more like HL when it comes to speed, etc, so if you've played that a bit, CS should be cake.

Got it and already gettin the hang of it, Thanks Guys.

I just went with the stand alone version becuse it was eaiser than downloading since i have already bettan HL a few thousand times i did not want it again.
 
Just make sure you d/l the all the latest updates and patches. You will not be able to play online untill you do and also you might want to get the map pack as the retail did not come with many maps.
