About 2 weeks ago I started having problems with counter-strike and it seems like no matter what I do I can't seem to solve my problem. The game itself will load just fine, but it will crash whenever the server I'm connected to changes levels. For example: If I'm playing on dust and then the level changes to italy the game will crap out right before it will load italy and give me this error, "WARNING: couldn't open valve/halflife.wad" and then I click OK and it spits me out to the desktop. This happens no matter what level I'm on and what level it's changing to, I just used dust and italy as an example.
I have the latest version of half-life (1106) and the latest version of counter-strike (1.1), and I've even tried removing and re-installing both games, but nothing has helped.
Here are my system specs:
p3 600e (not overclocked)
30gb IBM 76gxp hdd
256mb cas2 memory
Geforce 2mx (6.31 detonators)
Vortex 2 Superquad (running the last drivers they made before they went under)
Windows 98
Direct X 8
To my recollection I didn't change anything in my system to cause this to happen. As I said I have already tried removing and reinstalling both halflife and counterstrike and it still didn't work. Is there something I'm missing?
