I have DSL through SBC Global (Pac Bell) and recently when I have been playing CS, I have been getting dropped from servers quite frequently. I am wondering why this could be?! Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hey sorry I am new to this board, and "someone" told me to post here so I am. :) Anywayz I will make a rig page, but here is what I have:

Asus P4B266-C Socket 478/DDR Motherboard
Northwood P4 1.6A overclocked to 2.4GHz
512 MB DDR333 Samsung Original Ram
Gainward GE Force 4 Ti4600 w/ 128MB
Sound Blaster Audigy

I have SBC Global DSL, I know others with it and they don't get dropped...

all i can think of is that you have a shaky connection (i.e. you frequently have periods of a few minutes where you lost connection). has it ever happened while browsing that the internet just stops working for a few moments?

Nope never happened to me before actually. My connection is steady, I have stayed on for days since getting it. I reset the modem and stuff to try that, but I really don't know. It's pretty annoying to be doing well at CS and then get dropped! I forgot to mention I have the SMC Barricade 4port 10/100 Mbps Broadband Router (SMC7004ABR). This happened before the router too, but not at first when I started suing DSL. I have only had it for about 2 weeks!

ah... here we go...

try this site... it monitors your connection 24/7 for any problems. you have to register to use it, but its worth it, as the site is extremely useful. you can also use other tools which are very useful.

Weird, I do not get dropped when I am online or anything, it seems to be just fine. Maybe I have a router preference mis-set?

r u using the same version of cs w/ the server ??
did u turn on the auto download ?

you might be runnin' scripts that's forbidden in the server...
or before u dropped out did someone kick you out of the server.. ( common problem )
did u kill your temmate ? ( this could drop u out if the server had the "kick teammate killer" option enabled )

if nothing above could help or give any direction to where your problem lies... i'm sorry that i could not be of any help :(

I thought it was cause of my connection, but that runs smoothly w/o drops and dloads go straight through w/o any stops. I have monitored my new speed with programs as well. I think I may just re install HL and see how it goes.. my router might have a problem or something, I really dunno but I am getting mad. Thanks for the suggestions!
