I play a 24/7 Office as well as a thriving GunGame and surf. Unless you mean 1.6.

CS:S and 1.6 both only play dust2 or office. You can't find a packed server that does a full rotation. When was the last time you played prodigy, militia, or something else? Yes, there are gungame servers but not regular servers.

it would just be a new game then.

people keep going back to cs because at it's core its almost perfect (1.6 that is, not source)

truth.

CS is a great game. I'm pretty tired of it now, but there are times when I crave CS. CS 1.6 is a bit outdated in graphics, Source is fine for me. I don't expect tactics or anything from it.

It is classic online pub server gameplay without tracking stats and shit. (Altho some servers do) Basically it is fun. Everything fun gets boring at some point, but that doesn't mean it is broken.

In CS:S on servers with between 12-24 players that show up in my server browser I see:
de_dust2
de_aztec
de_inferno
cs_italy
cs_office
de_dust
de_nuke
de_season (I think this map is custom though)
de_cbble
cs_assault
de_train
cs_havana

So no there aren't any prodigy or militia but its probably because militia sucks. Prodigy isn't bad but its clearly not popular. I think thats enough variety for an average CS player looking for an active game on a non office or D2 map.

As long, as gameplay remains the same - I'm down :)
Why would anyone want to play "the same game" for 10+ years? What about all sports games? How old is chess? No one ever gets an idea to change some sh** up to spice things up with time proven design. CS is simple, consistent, and pretty balanced. It's a competitive game - you will get raped, and you will rage, if you're sitting on a couch with controller in one hand, beer in another, and a bag of chips between your legs. Deal with it.

Why does the community need Counter-Strike: Global Offensive? Why not just add new content to CS:S, and update the CS:S engine?

I have never liked straight counter-strike, the only version I play is Gun Games.

Pff... where's my arab streets :) Anyway, I used to play CS religiously (beta .6 ? I believe) and played competitive through college. I loved that game.

I cannot play it anymore, all it has become is dust2 with AWP. And that annoys the hell out of me. Unlimited cash, no team work, just aim by a corner and click.

I am currently on the TF2 bandwagon, at least I find it fun. High hopes for CS:GO though.

I don't see the point of CS anymore. I loved it back when I was in HS. After that I didn't have time to keep my twitch skills honed. Then MW/CoD got popular... Battlefield... CS just seems so... bland in comparison given the current crop of MPFPS games.

CS was revolutionary back in the day (props to AQ2 for paving the way)... but it's gameplay hasn't aged well.
