Counter-Strike framerate problem!

OK before today CS worked fine I never had a problem I had constant 100 fps the whole time. Today whenever I join a game my framerate is 100 and then just suddenly drops to 5-10 fps. Its not my video care (Geforce 4 Ti-4200) as I tried other games and they all work fine. Im thinking some idiot changed an option on my comp and that is causing CS to screw up. Any ideas?
 
very interesting... do you have your PC open to the public?

check some minor details... like direct x, detonator, and vsync

Hehe not to the public but I had some parties over the break while my parents were gone and LOTS of people used my PC.

I just got home and will try some of your tips in the morning.
 
Hmmm vsync off didnt fix it. My refresh rate is set to 75 so im not sure? Any other ideas? My OS is XP.
 
I most likly am going to format as im sick of this mess. In the process of trying to fix this problem I have created many more.
 
think I kno what your problem is, I bet your rate is set to 2500 as default. Type in rate 9999999999 in the console and that should fix it.
