Hey all, I have a rather unique problem with my net connection. When I try to connect to a CS server, the first attempt times out. Then when I try again it successfully connects. I have a 256/92 ADSL connection with a Speedstream 5660 DSL modem in router mode. This sort of thing never happened back when I had dial-up and it didn't happen when I was at my friend's house who has cable. He even brought his comp here once so I know it's not my comp (or the other one in the house for that matter) that's the problem. It's not a huge problem, it's just pesky. Anyway. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I have a Speedstream 5260 and a Linksys router in gateway mode, and Pacbell DSL. I have never had a problem with connecting to cs servers. The only thing I dont like is PPPoE. Which the router handles nicely, but sometimes the modem holds static, and I have to do a power cycle. I'm not sure what your problem is. The only thing I can even come close to relating to your situation is.... Sometimes when I open my web browser, it says that there is no connection, so do I want to work offline, or retry. So I hit retry, and it works!

have you tried running any online utils to see what may be the problem? try dslreports if you haven't already. it'll test for different things. just go to DSLR tools.

also are you having those problems with your internet browser as well? if you are, the I think it's the packet loss or maybe something along the connection. just try the tools and let us know what you find out. if it's not that, i'll try and think of something....

TheOmegaCode, I get that same thing when I open up my browser. It almost always says it can't find the site I'm looking for. My guess is that there's some kind of idle feature for the modems and they don't wake up fast enough maybe. :p I dunno.

crabbyapple1, I've tried the DSL tools and usually I usually fail the East coast test but pass the west coast one. I think it's because of my slow upload speed (90 some k). I also have high latency to my first hop it says. Something I do notice when I'm playing CS is that I'll usually have some packet loss throughout the entire match. So I'm thinking I need to contact my ISP about that. They seem kind of evasive whenever I try to ask them questions about that. :( At any rate, thanks for any additional help and/or advice you guys can give.
