counter-strike annoyances

ummmm. I have been playing it for a long time and this is the time ive had the time to write about it.

1) Does anyone know how to make the counter-strike game even brighter??
ive maxed the brightness/gamma/textsort/textgamma/lightgamma and i still cant see properly in some maps.(some servers lock these settings, making them useless).
Ive tried switching to D3D(from OpenGL) because my radeon has a game gamma setting.
But it makes the colours too strong.

2)My hard drive (20GB 5400rpm) goes crazy especially when a new map is loaded.
ITs annoying because when i get into firefights, the hard drive is doing something and it freezes the game up for a second. Anyone know how to fix it? (besides adding more RAM)

Specs:
P4 1.4GHz
128MB RAM
Radeon 9500 Pro 128Mb
20GB 5400rpm hard drive
Simple 15" monitor (cant change refresh rates or anything).

THANKS

Forget 'game gamma'. Doesn't work in CS.

Don't know what video card you have, but if you can turn up your desktop brightness slightly, you should be good to go.

Also, some servers (admins) drop nasty little files in your root directory which might slow you down, or limit your brightness, etc.

Open any small, suspicous files in your C:/ prompt with a hex editor. If you see any text relating to CS, DELETE THE FILE!

Last week I was really doing well on a certain server. All of a sudden I couldn't do anything right. For instance, I'd pump half a AK clip into a kat close range and he'd kill me with one shot! I baled out, checked my root directory, and sure as hell, here's a cute little file that wasn't there before. Deleted it and everything back to normal.

You need AT LEAST 512mg RAM!

I've read a 7200rpm drive makes a big difference in CS. Personally, don't know cause I've never used 5400 drive in CS.

Good luck.
