EDIT : Obvious April Fools 🙂 There's no way I can afford a 550HP Ruf tuned Porsche for $90k. At least not without having to downgrade my housing to a cardboard box.

How much does insurance run on it? 996 turbos are getting cheap now (996s in general are super cheap...something about 3.4L boxers blowing up)

My 6 mo full coverage (prepaid saved me almost 15%, instead of going month-to-month) from Geico cost $1,388. That does include rental car, and a few optional things.

Do I have something to worry about with this motor?

It has some mods from the previous owner, but they said these things are covered by their warranty for 1 year or 12k miles. I could have bought additional coverage, but they want over $2k/year for coverage past that point.
 
I knew the owner of that car. There aren't many in your area, which is why I know it's this one. That thing is a POS. It keeps misfiring and the dealership has tried to fix it three times but cannot reproduce it when you bring it in. My buddy would sit in traffic and it would stall out or other times he guns it on the highway and nothing really happens. You didn't notice that on the test drive? He obviously got lucky, he never thought he'd be able to sell it.

IIRC turbos have the 3.6L that is not as prone to blowing up compared to the 3.4L
Check rennlist just to be sure, I've only really done research on the 3.4L 996... mostly because they're getting ridiculously cheap.

You know, those models have a design defect in the rear driver's side johnson rod where it has a bend to clear the exhaust system. Because of a faulty batch of metal at the forge, the part is prone to breaking during hard right turns which can cause loss of control. An updated part is available, but it requires a special tool to replace and very few repair shops have it. Also, the replacement parts usually need to be shipped over from Germany since they aren't typically kept in inventory here in the US.

All told, you're probably looking at around $10,000 to have that issue fixed, so it's really not that expensive as far as Porsche repairs go.

This issue quite serious and can result in severe bodily injury, not to mention mechanical damage.

Didn't this model also have an issue with the turbo-encabulator that should be checked periodically to make sure the hydrocoptic marzelvanes don't have any side fumbling?
