Could you marry a 56 year old woman?

please give me half your salary. it's just half, you don't need it right?

It's also a completely ridiculous argument because that guy doesn't have $13 billion, he has a net worth of $13 billion (or $8 billion according to the most recent Forbes estimate). They're not the same thing. He doesn't just have a vault filled with gold like Scrooge McDuck; the vast majority of his wealth is derived from his ownership of stock in his company. If he liquidates the stock to pay alimony, he runs the risk of a hostile takeover as he no longer controls a majority share. And if he just gives her half of his shares, same scenario. In effect, she's not asking for half his money, she's asking for half his business, and that's not so easily divided as a pile of money. It's why tangible assets are hard to divide in divorce proceedings; you can't just chop a house in half and give each person an equal share.

Nope, I would not.

Also, her argument is that she is entitled to more, because she was an exec at the very company that made him a multi-billionaire. If she can prove she is entitled to more, because of her time & contribution there, so be it.

What is fair is fair.

However, if she can't prove that, then she is totally SOL, because her rejection of this money means she isn't going to see it again. Even if she can't get more, they won't give her this amount.

And, this man comes off as a meat head - who the fuck writes out a check like that, with that much net worth? Have your bank (who would probably lap up your grundel) issue a bank check to her. He couldn't keep private life separate from work, he couldn't keep her happy and now he writes out this check as if he is some sort of 5th grader playing office.

Marriage is a contract 50-50 unless otherwise agreed upon. Newell are you suggesting that the 1% pay lower amounts of alimony because they have more assets?

The reason stated above is why many people who get divorced either sell their assets or liquidate some to pay off the other half.
I'm not defending it but that is what a marriage contract is 50-50.

Too much money for me to be concerned about I guess.

I'd find it amusing if she got him in front of a judge and he said you should have taken it, and awarded her nothing.

But of course that won't happen.

Already married to a 56 year old woman; she has no where near 974 million and it doesn't matter to me.

All other things being equal, were I single I wouldn't propose to her.

I have no sympathy for someone who doesn't have a prenuptial agreement and a surprized that half their stuff can be lost in a divorce. There is a long, long history of 50-50.

Did she do half the work to earn the money?

Oh wait, this is America, its perfectly legal for some bitch to steal half your shit because reasons.

Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding,

Only in America, women are somehow indoctrinated into this thought that they somehow own 50% of their ex-husband's wealth. WTF did she do to earn 50%.

I wonder how many times you'd have to enter your PIN number at the ATM machine to withdraw $974 million dollars.

Looks like she's trying to get a few billion out of this divorce.. Better wait a few months.

26 years of marriage and she will probably get it. Not sure how the guy earned it, but she was with him just prior and through to the typical "earning years".

If my wife and I divorce I'm fully aware that half of what is mine becomes hers. Doesn't matter if you're worth $100k or $13 billion.

If the woman was 90 and had almost a billion dollars I'd marry her.

But that's it! I have boundaries. 🙂

And this.

If you already have cash when you get married, get a prenup.

If you become rich while you're married, you didn't do it alone.
