Could you hit a Home Run?

So during the home run derby, ESPN did a poll and 51% of people said they thought they could hit a home run given these stipulations:

10 batting practice calibre pitches
Aluminum Bat (Not wood)
In a Major League Ball Park

I think it is more like 2% of America could do it personally.

(For the record, I played Baseball in HS and I know I would NOT be able to - even with 100 pitches)

I could but I don't feel like it.

I've tried many times in a field that was close to MLB regulation and I always fell about 30-40 ft short on my best shots.

I just don't have the right torque in my hips or power to put it over.

Yea I have tried in places close to regulation, but I'm not a big guy (5'8") so the stars would have to align for me to hit one that would just sneak over at the corners.

I can; however, say with confidence, that I have a stronger throwing arm then a couple major league players (Thank you David Eckstein 🙂)

(Yay for time warp on the first post)

Matt Damon hit one over the Monster when the '99 All-Star Game was in Boston. Maybe it's easier than it looks?

I have no clue.

In my best day, I was able to crank out some deep triples (no fence baseball fields).
However, I didn't play in high school, and I got into a slump my last years prior to that anyhow.

I'd need to hit the batting cages with MLB-speed pitches before even attempting. If I connected squarely with an aluminum bat it's likely.
See the issue though? Hitting squarely is the challenging part - I can crank a well-hit ball no problem, getting a well-hit ball is a different matter.

Hell no, and I also know it would be extremely hard for me to throw out a runner while playing 3B. It seemed almost inhuman when I watched Ken Caminiti be able to do that routinely from his knees. Of course, he was on steroids and cocaine.

I probably could with 100 pitches, but I'd say of those 100, I'd completely miss 10, foul off about 50, hit grounders on 15, and fall short on 24.

If you chose "Yes" and have not played at least college ball, there is less than a .001% chance that you would be able to hit it out.

rocky - you are right about throwing a runner out from 3rd. Its tough. The most fun throw is definitely camping just behind a fly ball, getting a running start, taking a crow hop, and trying to gun someone down going home. I love it 🙂

No. Maybe, just maybe, if I hit it perfectly and as best I could as hard as I could...maybe. But most likely no.

It's like asking can I hit a 300 yard drive? Yes I can but only maybe 1 in 100.

yankee stadium is 318 in left field. i may have been able to do it in high school, but not in 10 pitches.

The only difficult part is the 10 pitches.
