Could use suggestions on OS for an older box

Howdy everyone.

I'm a long time Windows user with a pretty solid understanding of hardware and a little experience with fumbling my way through setting up networks with Windows machines. I recently started playing with Ubuntu and Debian a little bit, but I still have a LOT to learn.

That being said, I'm looking to turn an older donated computer (I named "Uggy") into a dedicated router (bandwidth throttling/prioritizing would be nice), file/print server, and 24/7 BOINC box (I'm on the Anandtech BOINC team 😀).

Uggy's specs:

CPU: Athlon XP 2000+
Mobo: PCCHIPS M817L
RAM: 256 MB SDRAM
GPU: ATI 3d Rage (or NVIDIA 5200) PCI graphics card
NICs: 1 x 10/100/1000 rj45 (to connect as uplink to my 10/100/1000 8 port switch), 1 x 10/100 rj45 (for the broadband modem)
HDs: 120 GB WD Special Edition PATA, 40 GB PATA
Case: some ugly beige midtower

I could really use suggestions and/or help finding a good OS that can continually do those tasks AND that's easy to set up.

To reiterate, the only things I really want it to do are:

- router for my home network (bandwidth throttling would be great since I occasionally play games or watch hulu/netflix on two of my computers)
- file/print server for my home network
- run BOINC 24/7

If I could pull up an internet browser, that would be a plus, but not a must.

Suggestions and noobie guides for such an affair would be greatly appreciated.

Wowie. Long time with no replies <.<

I figured someone could suggest a linux distro or something that could do routing, BOINC, and file/printer server and that was relatively linux-noob proof.
