Hi all,
I just finished building my new pc and am trying my hand at wireless for the first time. Here's what's going on:
I installed my WRT54G router using the setup wizard with no problems. I also changed the SSID from the default to another name and enabled WPA with a new assigned preshared key.
Next I installed my pci adapter on my second desktop and Win XP Pro (which I'm running on both) saw the card and installed it. However from there it isn't going according to the book:))...
My second PC does not see any wireless network that I can connect to. I'm not sure what settings to mess with in the router so I thought I would post here for some help first. I'm also running Norton's Firewall on each pc and have tried disabling it but the other desktop still does not see the network. By the way both pcs also have the same workgroup name.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Gary

Sorry I forgot to mention (It's been a long day) that the cd that came with the pci adapter card won't run at all. I also tested it in my main pc. When I try to run the setup program the outline of the setup screen flashes on the screen for a moment and then goes away. I can seem to get it to run at all. Would this be the problem you think?

If you can't get the program to install for your wireless device then it is not "Enabled" and not "hooked" into your operating system so it is only powered up that windows sees you have the device in the hardware but it is dead in the software.

Something is stopping the install from loading. Try booting up windows with all of the start ups disabled.

Check the installation of the Wireless PCI to make sure that the drivers are installed and there is no conflicts or and Ghost installation.

Put the computer with the Wireless Client close to the Wireless Router/ to make sure that distance is not the problem. (PCI Card stuck behind the computer case is not a very good idea for Wireless. For Desktop USB Wireless card could be more suitable).

Wireless basic Configuration:

MS Zero Configuration was not devised for Entry Level consumers Hardware; it has to be set Off.

Disable all software Firewalls (including Windows ICF).

Make sure that the drivers are set to infrastructure mode and obtain IP auto.*

*Router's DHCP On. (Off if IPs were configured manually).

Make sure that the Router does not have any MAC or IP filtering on.

Disable the WEP on both devices.

Set the SSID and channel of the Router and the Client card to be is same name.[/b]

Link to: Wireless Network Troubleshooting,

If it persisting not to work connect the Wireless computer to the Router via CAT5 cable and make sure that you have functional Network on the would be Wireless Computer.

Another thing I just noticed is the the small light beside the antenna is not on. Should it be on all of the time or only when it's getting a signal?
