So, I've had this computer (self built) since summer of 2k3, and all has been fine.

Original specs:
Asus p4p800
P4 2.8c
1gb corsair XMS 3200
radeon 9800 pro
audigy 2
Lite on CDRW/DVD combo drive (model number LTC-48161H).

Recently (winter break of this year), i threw in a DVD-RW (NEC 3500) for burning dvd's obviously. Still all was well. A few weeks ago however, I tried burning a CD from a CD image, and nero couldn't get past the lead-in. I tried other programs (dvd decrypter, musicmatch..) and none of them work.

I reformatted (for other reasons), and when i tried to install nero again, my system would reboot right away. I fixed this by using ForceASPI and putting my ASPI drivers back to 4.60 (it couldnt tell what version was running before). Nero boots now, but im still having this issue where my drives (both of them), can't get past the beginning of the disc. I just tried burning an audio CD, and the first track seems to play, but it dies right after that...

Also, DVD's seem to burn flawlessly using the nero plugin for DVD Shrink....

I DID update the firmware in both drives, but i cant remember if i burned a CD successfully or not after i did that...

Thats the only possible solution i can come up with.

Both drives are set on master of their respective IDE cables (HD's are SATA).

Any ideas anyone? i could really use some help....

Thanks,
Chap

What PCI slot is the Audigy2 in? When I'm back on my own system I'll look at the chipset-IRQ chart for that board and see if it is clashing with something.

</long shot>

Also, what brand & model of power supply is towing the boat there?

oooooo, good point on the audigy 2....now that i think about it moved it down a bit to give my radeon more space.....

you might just be right...

BTW: antec 350 watt...true power or something i cant remember i just woke up..

I think you might have sometihng with the audigy 2. I'll try that and get back to you.

Moved my audigy from the bottom slot to 2 slots below the AGP.

Still does the same thing

: (

Oh i forgot to list this, and i suppose ill pull it out now...

theres also a Digidesign Digi 001 audio card in there, but that hasnt moved in a long time...

I'll pull it out and see if theres any change.

any other ideas?

I might pull this drive out and put it in a friends computer (which has identical HD, MB, CPU, ram, etc.), and see if it still errors.

until then, any other ideas, no matter how wild, would be nice : ).

oooookayyyyyyy,

So maybe it was two problems...

When this whole thing first came up, I couldnt burn a CD on either drive...That mightve been because of the IRQ thing, because i DID change the slot of the audigy around the time it happened, i just never put 2 and 2 together.

However, I just burned an audio CD successfully on my DVD-RW....right after the CD-RW failed....

Now, ive ripped and burned a ton (and i mean a ton) of CD's with that CD-RW drive, so it might just be shot....when it tries to burn it rev's up and down a whole bunch now, instead of just erroring....

I'll do a few more tests, but I kinda have a weird feeling that the drive is just shot.

Even so, if it ISN'T and anyone has any ideas, please lemme know.

Thanks a bunch for you help MechBgon.
