Ok, basically i know i'm getting a new computer, and the sooner the better. i was originally going to get an Athlon 700-800 with the known and trusted K7V motherboard. But then talk of the THunderbird came around, and how it would be faster than the original Athlon for the same price. The Athlon no longer looked very apealing and now i want to get a Tunderbird. Now there are two problems.
First, where on earth are the Thunderbirds? Wasn't their release date like June 5th? I've yet to see a store in my area (NYC btw) that sells a Thunderbird (hell, half of them didn't even know what a Tunderbird was!). Although i've seen a few places on pricewatch that lists thunderbirds, they aren't in NYC, and i really don't want to have one shipped to me. So when will the thunderbirds (800 mhz in particular) be readily available?
Next, and probably the more difficult problem, is the motherboard. I've heard so many good things about the K7V, and its depressing to have found out that the Thunderbird is socket A and can't be used in it. The A7V sounds promissing, but i've yet to find a single place that sells it, even online! (go ahead... try to find a vendor on pricewatch, i dare you!)
I've found a few places that sells the AZ-11, but just looking at a picture of the board frightens me. I'd like to try to avoid that one at all costs. As for other motherboards, i've had very little luck locating them either.
I'm sure i'm not the first person with this problem, but i'd like to get a few opinions or tips on this topic. I'd like to get a new computer soon (in a week or two max), but i don't want to jump into an unstable platform , like i did with my AMD K6-2 - i STILL have problems with my SOYO motherboard, i bought both the processor and the motherboard the day they came on the market. i would like to try to avoid that. Any help/advice would be appreciated. thanks.
Edward
