On my older system which I recently got my mobo back from RMA (780i SLI FTW) I have a
Q6600 G0 VID = 1.25 @ 3.2 Ghz and a Tuniq tower with a high speed scythe fan, but have trouble getting stable higher. I am guessing I need lots of board tweaking. Power saving settings are off, and so are the spread spectrum stuff. Vcore at about 1.3, vdroop off, VTT at about 1.325 I believe. 2x2 GB ram at 1.825 V synced. I am guessing I need to play around with GTLs, I have them manually set all to +00mV so that lane one doesnt get plus 110 by auto. I have heard on EVGA forums that GTL control is important to get around 3.4 stable or higher. Anyone have experience with a Q6600 like this on similar nvidia boards?
My cores idle around 28-31 C at current settings, but when stress testing using IBT or small FFT's, temps jump up to around 55 C and then the screen just hard freezes, need to reboot.
Probably go a bit higher, but the screen is frozen by then.

My other system has a core i7 920 on a Gigabyte UD5 currently with stock cooling, @ 19x169. I have heard that the i7's like odd multis. All powersaving is off, so is HT and turbo mode. Flashed to latest F5g beta bios. Vcore at 1.2875, QPI/VTT at 1.160 V, ram at 1.5 V, other voltages at auto/normal/stock. Seems to be ok at the 3.21 Ghz, temps idle about the same as my Q6600. However, when I tried it with 19x180 BCLK, i got a BSOD at vista startup. Is this because of lack of increased QPI voltage, or am I limited by my cooling? Could use a little help with recommended settings and voltages for my UD5, and my temps seem ok, even with IBT at 3.05 GHz they stayed under 56 C. Havent tried it yet at 3.2 or higher. I think I might just need voltage help, but sure, hope to get a TRUE with another one of these Scythe fans soon. 110 CFM :D they are loud though. Oh, and the stock cooler is set manually to 100% speed.

Well seeing as noone's answered you yet I'll try to help with the Q6600 ;), however I've only had experience o/cing my quad with an Nvidia 650 & Intel P45 mbrd, anyway.....

Firstly is your RAM staying within its default speed when the CPU's at 3.2GHz?
Have you tried upping the NB voltage & the vcore? (not at the same time of course).
Can't say I know about the GTLs, bus as with any voltage tweak knock up 1 nothc & see if it helps :).

Let us know how you get on.

1.45 is fine on a Q6600 for Vcore. V-droop is a concern as well. On my q6600s-ive had 4- I would basically set em at 3.6, Vcore at 1.45, much lower with vdroop, and see if I could boot into windows with everything else set on auto voltage wise. If it did I had a good chip usually. The one terrible Q6600 I had would not post no matter what above 3.0 unless I dropped the multi and ran it at 3.2 with the ram at 800.

How many times have you rmad your 780i? My 680i has been replaced 8 times so far. Funny thing is its now a htpc running at near stock and it still managed to die.

only once needed to replace my 780i. It died cuz of some stupid mistake I think, I was doing maintenance with system, and I might have hooked up the Fpanel audio wrong, which I hear can fry the entire board via EVGA forums. anyways, my q6600 is back down to 3, had trouble even booting at 3.2 after a while. Ram is synced. I figure I will just leaved it at 3 for now, though I would like some more help with the i7, my main system. specifically more about what voltages to use for high BCLK's..anyways, more for that when I get a better cooler.

For the i7, your stock cooling is holding you back. 3.2 is the limit for most people on the stock cooler using the 920. Get a better cooler and you should hit 3.6-3.8 pretty easily; beyond that, YMMV.

thanks for the help. I will be getting a TRUE ASAP, but as for the Q6600, I wouldn't think I would need that much vcore just to reach 3.2-3.4 stable, especially given my low VID, 1.25. If anything, I guess it may be different with the 780i vs the popular gigabyte and asus p45's, which may require more vcore and voltage for the same or similar low VID chips, but perhaps its not vcore at all but rather board instability that could be solved getting a nice, cheap P45 like the UD3P featured on the front page. Might be worth checking out, since they are just in the $125 range.

Mb I could sell the 780i to someone who needed an SLI board, as I don't need a second since my UD5.

You might not need that much, there's only one way to find out , crank up the vcore until your CPU is stable at the speed you want (bearing in mind temps of course).
1.3v vcore for a Q6600 is barely over default ;).

Well, I suppose I could try going up above 1.4 V. I think I have it set right now between 1.3 and 1.4. Anyways, if I can sell it, I will, so long as it would more than pay for a new EP45-UD3P, which should be doable, considering I bought it for $270. Also, I will try to see if I can get a good guide on the evga forums. Keep in their 780i/680i guide is dated, and written b4 my FTW came out. TY for help, I will try that again now.
