i've gone through 3 hard drives in about 1 year, however all 3 were the IBM 60 gig hard drives wehre i got the clicks of death...so i had always thought it was just because of the hard drive.. but now im on my 4th hard drive and got a maxtor instead.. about a month after using it, windows explorer would always "freeze" on me whenever i clicked on a large file like over 100 mb, and after it freezes, it'd basically reload explorer.exe so my taskbar and systray is reloaded i guess.. this got very annoying cuz after it froze and reloaded explorer.exe, i'd lose certain icons/programs that i had in my systray (like they wouldnt show up there after explorer reloaded, unless i rebooted)... so i wasnt sure what that problem was, i thought it was a bad xp install, so i formatted and reinstalled and it did the same thign...
now this is just one of my problems...

with this new hard drive and my old hard drives.. out of nowhere i'd get this blue screen w/ white text on it saying errors or soemthign like that, but it'd only show up for less than a second and it'd reboot my computer.. this happened randomly, and after it reboots it'll just be normal and go back to windows..

however, about 10 mins ago, i got that blue screen, it rebooted and then went to this this screen.. i followed its instructions and rebooted and it still went to that screen.. so now i can't get into windows... also, about 5 min or so before i got the original blue screen, i heard noises from my case, sounded like the fans or heatsink or somethign, and then after i got the first blue screen (not pictured) i smelt a burning smell like somethign fried or soemthing coming from my comp :(

any ideas about any of my problems please?? please help!

thanks!

First of all. PC specs?? What PSU are you using? It might be a bad PSU giving too much voltage or not giving enough voltage.

You might want to check the temps of your CPU and monitor the voltages that are provided by the PSU. I'm still convinced that the PSU is causing the problems. Do you have a spare PSU to try it out??

no spare psu to try..

can't monitor anything about the temperatures right now because i can't get into windows because i keep getting this screen: http://www.dork.com/chau/DSC00017.JPG

ill try again tomorrow mornign to see if it'll boot up into windows, maybe its a overheating issure or something?

It might be overheating. Check in the bios to get the cpu temps and the power rail readings. :)

alright guys...i think it is the power supply... once i turned my system on...my powersupply (fan) was making this really loud nosie... but do u think that the power supply could be causing the problems with windows explorer freezing as i stated in my first post??

also, i went into bios and got this info: link to pic

Seems like the voltage are pretty normal. Try sniffing your way through to identify the burning smell?

nope i don't over clock

i only smelt the burning smell the first time when it restarted and i got that error screen, i can no longer smell it anymore though

if you don't overclock, then i think that the psu is the culprit
or that you are just unlucky enough to get 4 broken hard drives
what are the odds for that;)

ok..im not exactly positive that it was the psu now.. im currently on this same computer.. and when i turned it on the first time, i found it was the heat sink that was making the loud noise and i saw the heat sink fan barely spinning, but i turned it off and back on, and now the heat sink fan spins like normal.. so im guessing there is a problem with the heatsink and i'll get that replaced
