Ya know, because it's the loudest video card ever made =) Might be a collector's item like a lot of the Voodoo cards are now.

Maybe in a sentimental way, but in terms of monitary value, probably not.

yes, but since you have too pay a lot to get one (they are quite rare now) you are probably not going to profit off of buying one. in other words, it will probably retain value as a collector's item, but the damn things cost so much to buy that there's not much room for the price to move upwards.

Seriously, how much will it be worth as a collectable? $25 as compared to $0 for an obsolete, outdated product?

i have seen voodoo5 6000 go for over 700 dollors now adays and they were only comparable to a geforce2 pro. so yes, they could very well become valuable. or at least be able to sell it and break even at a later date or you could get screwed and it be worth nothing.

it wasn't the V 5 6000, they never sold them. I've almost bought one about 20 times off Ebay, then always back out. I have 3 5500's though.

I think it won't become valuable. It was retail released, and replaced by the 5900 Ultra.

The V 5 6000 was the last Voodoo product, and never released, hence its worth.

the last product that was never relaeased was the rampage. it would beat a geforce3 and it was about to began production around the time 3dfx went uder. there were less than 5 made, so if one was to appear on ebay, i imagine it would go as high as 1000.

Sure why not? Just by up several thousand and have them destroyed. When only a hundred or so exist, they'll be pretty valuable. Better yet destroy all but one (or better yet 2 but only let ppl know about 1 of them), that way it'll be very valuable.

I never understood the popularity of the Voodoo line in the face of the RivaTNT, et al.
Moot altogether, now, though.

That can't be a rampage. It has a geometry chip and 1 or more pixel chips. At the very least there should be 2 chips on there.

It's kinda off funny that the industry is becoming more 3dfx-like, with the rotated grid FSAA (a form of multisampling), architecture specific render paths(Glide vs NV30/R200 specific paths on Doom3), and even the good ole molex power plug.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!!!!!!! Those who think that investing in computer parts is going to pay off are TRIPPING!!
These things are all made with a planned obselencense within 5 years complete obselete within 8.Whats this part going to be worth in a few years time when their aint no AGP? just some " Super VID+++ "Or whatever they will call it But ill lay money on the card being totally crapola compared with all currentt Hard ware within 5 years JUST BECAUSE ITS RARE DOESNT MEAN JACK SH*TE unless SOMEONE HAS A USE FOR IT.

the 3dfx rampage line (aka spectre) was devided up into 3 differant cards. 1 had the rampage chip and no sage (the external hardware t&l/geometry proccessor) andother had 1 chip and 1 sage, the other had 2 rampage and 1 sage. the sage was used as a bridge for the agp, so the two gpus could opperage. the last 2 boards i mentioned were never made. those boards pictured were mainly made to test the rampage chip itself. I wish that nvidia would take the 3dfx design for FSAA. 3dfx FSAA 2x and 4x are better than nvidia and ati 2x and 4x. nvidia has the technology to improve there products, but for somereason they wont. lets just hope that nvidia does not write a glide4 and start getting game makers to use it. although backwards compatability to glide3 and glide2 would be nice to have on my geforce. 3dfx also acquired a company a few months before they went under called gigapixel, they had a tilebased rendering solution that was superior to that of the Kyros. 3dfx was going to use this in mojo, there directx 9 card. maybe nvidia will use this stuff in nv50, but that is wishfull thinking. too bad 3dfx went under, they were the best graphics card company, to me at least.

notice the power connecter on the one chip design. wierd for back then.

There are a couple of samples of the V5 6000 that are being sold for hundreds. they're worth quite a lot and...perform alright in games as long as you dont need dx8+ features.

By the way, you should have said 5800Ultra, not 5800, because they are 2 different cards.
And there are quite a few of both cards.
And they suck.

Not compared to the Ti4400 in your box Lonyo.
Let's see:
Ti4400 DX8, 5800 DX9
Ti4400 really slow, 5800 really fast
Ti4400 ~$150, 5800 $400-$500
Ti4400 Doom3=good luck, FX Doom3 faster than all cards except 5900

Ti4400 quiet, FX noisey.

So you gauge a FX as "sucking" because it's louder than your card, but in very other factor a person could consider it's better than your card.

Lonyo, I'd rather have a "sucking" 5800 than an antique 4400 any day of the week.

BTW- the 5800 could be collectable due to very limited release. I don't personally think they should be, but the V5 6000 is a worhtless card from a functional standpoint, but they sell for big money still. A person could actually use a 5800 for a long time to come.

Antique 4400? It (mine) will be able to run Doom 3 (given, medium detail) at 1024x768 with ease, seeing as my processor is fast enough to make it the somewhat bottleneck in my machine and the ti4600 at said resolution in tests performed just fine. I plan on keeping this card for a while, and it is by no means obsolete (this reminds of the thread in which people called 30-40 fps, with anything 1280x1024 2xAA2xAF, unplayable :\).

NYHoustonman: I would guess you'll be upgrading after running Doom3.
People aren't used to medium detail 10X7, no AA/AF settings for IQ anymore. It's OK for online deathmatch where fps is life, but in a single player game where you're taking in the sights the graphics will probably seem a littl rough around the edges.

Mostly I just wanted to tell Lonyo he shouldn't tell people who have cards that are many times over superior to his that their card sucks. If he had a card that is better than a 5800 (e.g. 9800) I might buy it, but his card "sucks" compared to a 5800 anything.

rollo, are you really saying that part of the reason you consider the 5800 better is because it costs more?

Nope, I'm saying its worth makes it more desirable to have. Would you rather have a Chevy or a Lexus?
