Could someone explain indepth steps to overclock my P3 700

I have read some threads about people having their p3 700's clocked at 1 gig at 1.7 volts or somethign like that.. I have never overclocked a system and need instructions on how to figure out my voltage and what I can clock my system at without harm. Thanks
 
What's the rest of your system? You need a motherboard/bios combo that allows for changing FSB speed and posssibly CPU core voltage.
 
You'll just have too spend some time searching for guides on the subject. This forum is not the place for a question like that. You'll have too do your own dirty work
 
well i have a dell dimension xps t700r.... 100bus 1.65 volts... my bios doesnt allow me to mess with fsb's.. or anything i have 384 sdram.. soundblaster live.. 25 gig western digital 7200 rpm's.. my system flies as it is.. but i have read about clocking to 1 gig with ease.. i need to know how to overclock it.. i have never overclocked before.. where do i look on motherboard.. what do i switch?? like i said my bios version has nothing about change voltage or fsbs...
 
Ooooo, sorry. No overclocking a Dell as far as I know. The motherboard/bios won't offer any way to mess with the standard setttings so I think you're stuck at 100MHz FSB speed.
 
yea if you can't adjust FSB either through BIOS or jumpers....you're pretty much stuck at 700 since the only way to overclock is by FSB.

The only people reporting "clocking to 1 gig with ease" are those NOT using OEM machines like yours... They have put together the systems themselves.

There is a possibility that if settings for FSB aren't in the BIOS (which you indicate they aren't), then your Dell mobo might have a jumper for 133 bus, assuming they advertized an upgrade path for that model beyond 700 (eg., 800 in the form of an 800EB 133 FSB, or 933 which is also 133 FSB).

Otherwise, you have to build your own... 😉
 
my system bus is 100 though not 133... i looked at the motherboard i cant really make out a model but i did see a little white thing with 3 jumper slots... but there were not any jumpers on it.. i could have over looked it
 
See the Dell support site for XPS T systems. Looks like a BX chipset and no jumpers on the motherboard to control FSB speed. Sorry but you can forget overclocking that machine.
 
not to get your hopes up or anything, but it's not that easy to reach 1ghz with the 700. There are many people who have gotten there with ease, but those are also the people who have gotten some aftermarket cooling, thermal compound, extra case fans, etc to get their 700 to run at 1ghz or beyond. Your OC-ing success also depends on the rest of your system: ram, video, mobo, etc...cause if those components can't handle the, they'll bottleneck the overclockability of your system. It also depends on your specific chip, some being more overclockable in general than others. You can check www.overclockers.com to see some specs, and I think they might also have a guide on overclocking you can check out too. Good luck 🙂
