Could my 1.8vcore & up to 90'C load temps with my stock cooler tbred-b be finally taking it's toll and causing this?

I know i'm cross posting but this idea only hit me just now, and it hasn't been getting much love in TS...

Cheers

EDIT: the 90'c load temps have stopped since i took the hsf off & cleaned it then replaced it using AS5 instead of the crap that was on there. It only got that hot when it was in the mid-high 30's ambient...idling @56'C now, loads in the high 70s/low 80s, prime stable & no problems until this...

Contents of other thread for ya: Topic Title: My computer keeps randomly freezing, sometimes it recovers eventually, but most times it doesn't...
Topic Summary: Primary screen locks up (always with some image corruption), secondary is fine, flash ads on msn still working...
Created On: 03/17/2006 12:51 AM

At first i thought it was a media player problem, since the crashes kept happening while i was watching stuff in wmp & media player classic, so i used my creative mediacentre and had no problems for the last few hours.

Then i stopped watching videos (closed the apps) & was completing some online job applications in FF and it did it again. FF froze, the mouse froze, and there was some text corruption. A small blue line (like my background was coming through) appeared after a few seconds. On the other screen i could still see the flash adds on msn live beta working, no HDD activity tho.

None of the keys responded at first, but then i was eventually able to alt-tab out. The primary went black & the crt made a refresh/resolution changing click, then everything was back to normal. Before i wasn't able to Alt-tab out...

It's fine when gaming (or at least it was last night), the problem seems to have just developed today...

Any advice?

You didnt mention if its overclocked or not. Put everything back to stock and run prime95 and see what happens. Run memtest too.

WHY do you create the longes thread titles in history?

Back to topic, maby? Put everything back to stock speeds and see if it still happens and then if that doesn't work, then maby time for new computer?

thing is, it's 100% stable under load...

it's just random locks that happen when it's nowhere near load, and it seems to always recover if i wait long enough (been doing it a few times today, and i've been patient, after about two to three mins it refreshes the primary screen and goes on as if nothing bad happened...

As to whether it's overclocked, i'd hardly be likely to be running a stock tbred-b at 1.81vcore would i? ;) 2.1Ghz, stock it's a 2000+ (1667mhz). I'll back to stock & see what happens, but it's just that it's started happening in the last few days...it's not as if the error is reproducible as far as i can tell...

Sounds like mobo or RAM.

And yeah, you need to stop OCing for a while, or you'll never be able to be sure it's not that causing it.

Also, wtf n00b? :p
You've been here long enough to make a rigs profile & link to it in your sig, or at least post the system specs when you post this kinda question...

i've just never got around to it

It keeps doing it right now (gf is watching her Live8 dvd on the other screen and not enjoying the pauses) :p

2.1Ghz tbred-b (stock 1667mhz 2000+)/ Asus A7V8X/ 1GB RAM (2x512)/6600GT/SB Live! 24-Bit/DVICO HDTV fusionlite PCI card/160GB WD/20GB Maxtor...

I'll back down to stock after the DVD ;)

I'd start running Memtest.

It doesn't really sound like RAM to me, but it's worth getting that suspicion outta the way.

i had a similar problem with an old msi board and my 2800 barton. it would freeze when i was doing nothing or just starting to burn a dvd or cd. but it never came out of it, i alwayse had to reset it. as i was going thru it i did the same thing you did clean the hsf, rebuilt the pc and switchd out the ram, hdd,cd/dvd drvs etc. i even got a new psu same thing happened. so i narrowed it down to the motherboard. picked up a soyo dragon 2 and it has been fine ever since. just my .02 :p

meh, at 1666, stock fsb/ram (so 133) it was still happening...

again, not under load particularly...

i dropped the 6600GT to stock as well, so we'll see how that goes...was at 590/1150.

how do the caps look on your board? Are they swollen, bulging or leaking anything out of the top? I just had problems similar to this and it turned out to be the caps on my 8rda+. I am having to RMA it. if you are looking for info on this then go to

www.badcaps.net (might be .com)

What heatsink do you use dug? I've heard of people using up to 1.85V on TbredB's and them lasting (which is pretty impressive because 130nm P4's and Athlon64's cannot tolerate these kinds of voltages with air cooling).

But if you're on stock cooling then I'd say you're pretty much asking for it to die. What's your overclock?

I believe he uses the stock AMD heatsink. I agree that he's asking for it to die, but it's summer in Australia right now and he doesn't have air conditioning in his house, so what can you do...:p

stock hsf, 2.1Ghz atm from 1667mhz (it's been running like this for ~3years i guess).

Anywho, looks like i've isolated my video card o'c as the culprit right now (it hasn't done it to me since i backed the cpu to 2.1again, and dropped the card to stock...

we'll see...
