Could it be . . . the dumbest car ever made?

So... which Hip Hop stars, ball players, and A list actors are already on the waiting list?

Face it... the simple fact that it costs 1.35 million will make them want it more!

I don't see it that way. I love many many cars I can't afford. I LOVE the McLaren F1, and have come, begrudgingly, to admire the Bugatti Veyron. I love Rolls-Royces, Bentleys, Ferraris, and Astons. Hell, I mostly love cars I can't afford (and I could probably afford a $50K car if I wanted one). What I don't love is classless, ugly nouveau riche crap like this Maybach.

ummm, those are different classes of car. And as it was said before, if you can drop 1.35 mil on a car, then you can afford another mil on the sports cars

The Phantom Drophead isn't THAT different, and it's a far more interesting and appealing car IMO, for a fraction of the price. I only raised the sports cars because they are the only other cars that cost anything like the same amount of money. Obviously you could buy 10+ S-classes for similar cash.

When you can afford a car like that, you have money to waste.

Hell, if I was super incredibly wealthy, I'd buy one.

No thanks. For the same money, you could buy this, this, this, AND this. Each is more impressive and just better than that awful Maybach.

The man that buys a Maybach already has all those cars you linked to.

I think this incarnation of the Maybach is stupid, but the original car is sweet. It's the epitome of luxury and there are plenty of suitors for it's $450k price tag.

Where did you test drive one?

I don't even know where my nearest Maybach dealer is (probably Chicago), but I can't imagine they would let me near one of these dreadful land-yachts in the unlikely event I suffered head trauma and a corresponding loss of taste and common sense, and wanted to drive one. (As a philosophical matter, I'm not sure it makes sense to test-drive a car so patently built to be driven by a chauffeur - do you test-ride it?)

I don't need to test drive one to know that this monstrosity is insanely priced and butt ugly. I've also never test-driven a Pontiac Aztek or an AMC Pacer, but I know I wouldn't buy one of those either. This is a car for lottery winners and shiftless heirs, IMO, because nobody with the wherewithal to make the money to buy it would want one. I would honestly rather have a 10-year-old Accord, from the standpoint that at least I wouldn't be embarrassed to show my face in it.

then you just sound like a whiney emo that wishes they could afford the car.

Hate to break it to you, but to some that million dollar sticker is nothing. Before you give investment advice, they don't need it.

I don't recall giving investment advice, but in any case I think absolute value is part of any buying equation, regardless of one's wealth. I have no qualms with the price of the Bugatti Veyron, which is even more costly than this car, and indeed I'd probably buy one if I could readily afford it. This Maybach, however, is a pug-fugly, tasteless, classless insult to the senses in my view.

By way of illustration, I have no umbrage with a wealthy person spending six figures on this watch, but I am bothered by the idea that someone would spend similar cash on this or this, and it would make me think less of the buyer, as this car does.

If you want to defend the car on its merits, fine, but I'm not sure I understand your need to defend it as a buying choice, nor your need to pick on me personally (though you generally seem to feel that this entire forum is your personal whipping boy).

In case you, like us, are wondering who would spend that kind of money on a convertible version of a car that ordinarily costs (an already exorbitant) $433,750, ask Hans-Dieter Mulhaupt, the VP in charge of the Maybach program: "The Landaulet is for a superrich individual who wants something that is extremely extraordinary and enjoys being driven in a car with acres of sky above them.

Translation for those who don't speak corporate marketing-ese: "The Landaulet is the car for people with more money than brains and the emotional need to show that off."

I think your tie is too tight. If you want to go out on a limb and bash something, try to be at least a player in it's arena.

You are being no different than any fanboi and that was my point.

as too those watches you posted, chances are the person wearing that would be at maybe an event or two in their life. People don't buy ultra flashy stuff as a everyday item most of the time.

Dudes with 6 figure watches, probably have a case full of five figure ones.

I literally have no idea what the hell you're talking about. Are you saying I can't criticize a film because I'm not a filmmaker, or a building because I'm not an architect? I have two eyes and can see that this car is an abortion. I don't believe I need to be in its demographic to understand that. I fail to see how I am going out on a limb to observe than a hideous car is, well, a hideous car.

So. let's get this straight. By your standards, I am qualified to criticize the design of the Aztek because I could easily pay cash for one, but not this awful Maybach because it would take me years to earn the entry price? Is that really your point?

That's apparent and your analogies after that aren't applicable.

You are comparing this car as if it'd be Joe Nobody going down to the lot for a grocery getter.

There is a market for this type of vehicle and the 'look' is what happens when you have an extended passenger compartment.

Glad you are on to becoming a millionaire though.

When you flatly dismiss any arguement that anyone makes without even attempting the consider the merit of the comment, you at best invite personal criticism, but more appropritately, deserve to be ignored.

You don't like the car, we get it, now move along.

I am more than prepared to do that, but I'm not the first one in this thread to "flatly dismiss any argument that anyone makes without even attempting to consider the merit of the comment." I'm not sure I even know what a "whiny emo" is - I am 37 and not up on the latest l337-speak - but I don't think it's flattering.

And for the record, no, I don't like the car.
