Could I run a decent sized speaker from the cigarette adapter?

I have an old car. I'd like to listen to music in the thing. I've tried little portable bluetooth speakers, but their SQ isn't very good.

I have a Creative D200 speaker. SQ is good enough, especially for a car.

Now, the cigarette adapter is 12volts. I just checked the AC adapter of the speaker and it says 14 volts.

Is it possible? Or is it a really bad idea?

Any other way to maybe get the needed power?

most aftermarket car radios have aux in on them. i'd just get a new head unit.

or if your radio has a casette player, you can get one of those tapes that has a wire connected to it and you can plug that into your music player.

you can probably get a head unit with aux input for under 50 bucks on ebay. i'd go that route if I was you.

I snagged a Pioneer unit with ipod control, wireless remote, and aux connector for $30 a few months back. No bluetooth or HD radio but it does what I wanted. Plug my phone into it and play pandora or whatever.

So I've been testing the D200's with a 12 volt input...and ironically...they sound better.

It's not crazy. The 14 volt adapters seem to...overvolt...the speakers, resulting in static sounds, probably from an overloaded capacitor.
