Could I overclock this....?

I have a FIC VA-503A running a AMD K6-2 500MHz CPU. Is it possible to overclock this any? If so, how far? TIA

So, nobody has any idea? I thought it would be a simple question for you overclocking pro's here. Any ideas at least?

very unlikely...but you can give it a shot. the cpu is running at 5x100, the board supports 112mhz fsb, so you can try setting it to 5x112, which would be 560mhz. in general, the old k6-2's are poor overclockers..

The website says it also supports 124mhz FSB, would that make it faster, how fast? Or am I way off?

well, running it at 5x124 would be 620mhz, so it would "make it faster", but there is a limit to overclocking. at 112mhz fsb, the cpu might be able to handle it and so might other stuff...at 124mhz fsb (even assuming you use pc133 ram) i am almost positive (you can try it if you want) that the cpu wouldn't be able to handle it, even with higher voltage, nor do i think the cache on the motherboard could take it.

If the board supports 2.0V or 2.1V ( I can't tell from the documentation, but it looks like 2.2V may be the lowest) you MAY be able to run a K6-2+, which will OC (and perform) much better than the regular K6-2s. If you run one at 2.2V it may fry. They're unlocked and seem to hit 600MHz pretty well. I got a K6-2+ 450 at Tiger direct for $35.

Check which revision VA503 you have. A 1.1 will run a 500+ K6-2 for a while but may burn up the on board voltage regulator (been there, done that). A 1.2 revision supports the 500MHz+ K6-2's and has a bios for the K6-2+'s. You might be able to get 550MHz+ from your 500MHz chip, a big part depends on good cooling.

Lap that cpu, K6's are pretty unlevel. Get a good heatsink and set that sucker on 112 x 5 for 560MHz, put the core voltage on 2.5v. The jump in fsb speed will give you a large performance boost.
