I have a slight short term memory problem as well. My memory is highly associated, though, so if I am given even a slight reminder of what I need to remember, I can usually recall everything almost instantly.

Do you get enough sleep, eat healthy food, and exercise? All of those can help you considerably.

One thing that you can do is really try super hard to focus. I know it sounds kind of weird, but it should help. Good luck!

i run cross country and track, and i usually get about 8 hours of sleep, also i try and eat healthy. i think this weekend ill try talking to my parents about it. i dont think it has to do with lack of concentration, i mean, i try really hard in my classes to understand. dont get me wrong, i usually get A's and B's. i do work my arse off, i dont appreaciate being called a "dumbo". i hope my parents dont think im looking for an excuse to do bad in school, i just need to get this off my chest.

Try taping your lectures and filling in your notes afterwards. I know it is a pain the butt to do it that way but it works.

In nick1985's defence, I have some advice for you.
You are continually calling him 'dumbo' despite YOUR apparent lack of intelligence.

Let me provide examples.

You say: "stop making excuses for yourself cause your doing bad in college"
Let's briefly take this apart.
1) The first letter was not capitalised.
2) 'Cause' is the wrong word. I presume you mean 'Because'. Next time, put that instead.
3) 'Your' indicates possession yet you seem not to have the intelligence to know that 'you're', the contraction of 'you are', should be used instead of 'your'.
4) Use punctuation, dumbass.

Post 2:

"no seriously, just dont be so stupid and everything will work out."

1) Again, you ignore the need for capitalisation.
2) Instead of, "no seriously," it should be, "no, seriously,"
3) 'Don't' is a contraction of 'Do Not', in case you didn't know. Therefore, an apostrophe is needed in substitution of the letter 'o'.

Frankly, I do not have the time to correct your many mistakes.
All I suggest is that you discard your 'schoolboy bully' attitude and look at your faults first.
Fool.

Lemme guess, you're the guy who helped nick steal the mattress, right?

Nick, possible learning disabilty aside, typically has little more to add to the average thread than "STFU" or his trademark "i hate liberals". I'm going to go out on a limb and assume this is why most here aren't exactly tripping over themselves to help him. You get what you give.

nick1985, it seriously sounds as if you are suffering from ADD, Attention Deficit Disorder. "A severe difficulty in focusing and maintaining attention. Often leads to learning and behavior problems at home, school, and work. Also called Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)."

I highly recommend you inform your parents, and seek the advise of a medical professional. If indeed you do suffer from ADD, it's nothing to be ashamed of, nor does it mean you're stupid. Millions of Americans suffer from the same problems, and possibly many millions more suffer without proper diagnosis and treatment.

If you're uncomfortable bringing it up with your parents and want to do a little research on your own, I suggest you start here:

ABCs of ADD

Good luck!

actually this is exactly what happened to me, and i even have the same bad handwriting as you. never did drugs, including smoking and alcohol.

anyway, no matter how much i study it didn't help and i often got better grades when i didn't study and just guessed. by better i mean a C. unlike you, i actually told my doctor i think i have a learning disability and he totally cut me off mid-explaination and said it is not possible because i wouldn't even be able to get into college then. so i just gave up since no one would help.

so anyway, i failed lots of classes and it took me *many* years longer to graduate and i seriously learned nothing. i have a bs in computer science now and i can't program and could never get a programming job even if i wanted one.

if you want to pass your classes i suggest studying a lot the night before and then also about 1 hour before class and then study the things you find hardest right up to point they are passing the test down the aisles, then quickly put away your notes and write what you saw onto the test somewhere. i found math the hardest too and i had to take calculus ii like 4 times to pass it! i still don't know how to do it. the book sucked too and would skip over all the "little steps" in the examples, yet i had no idea what the little steps were even.

Ameesh,

I don't know what crawled up your ass recently; but it definitely needs to come out. You've just been a dick to everyone lately....don't what your problem is. Not everyone leads a perfect life and is a genius like you dude. Nick came here for advice, not be criticized and called names by you.

and Nick,

I truly am sorry for what you are going through. I hope you can really work through this and find out what's causing it. Good luck to you dude. :)

Yep!
Something from his childhood probably just re-surfaced . I have a freind who was acting out of whack, I urged him to go see a shrink. You don't as negatively as that unless there's something disturbing you profoundly.
I started a thread about him that was locked in like 30 seconds flat... I only did it to make him realize how he was acting :) I don't think it worked.. and im a newbie so i suck :Q
Anyways, i hope he resolves it before he has kids!
:D

You you did'nt apply/challenge yourself younger so your brain never developed the nessesary skills. I play chess with my 10 yr old and he's leaning trig so this won't be a problem. I see no hope in your case but is'nt college about drinking and having fun anyway? Major in business, make contacts get into sales... no memory really helps in sales.

I feel like that too sometimes nick. I've never had a good memory, I have to really concentrate hard to remember things.

I've read that Lecithin is good for short term memory problems. It's a vitamin or something like that, that you can buy at the store. Maybe wanna look into that?

Here's the deal Nick1985 (and since you have crapped on a ton of threads, don't go crying to FI about it).....

Some people can't cut it...you may be one of them and yeah that's sad....but no one owes you a handout or a free ride because you are saying you may have a learning disablity. If you can't learn whether because you are an idiot or genetically it doesn't matter, if you can't retain the skillset stay out of the kitchen.

I had to deal with a few 'idiot by births' in my comp science classes. They had tutors and notetakers, plus they were allowed to have tape recorders and even video in class. Now call me uncompassionate, but if I could video tape all my lectures somehow I think I'd have done maybe a tad bit better.

Some people are just like that. I did great in school, but when it came to the SAT and ACT; I completely and utterly did horrible. I was ranked number 12 out of 450 kids in my graduating class. I'm not the smartest kid, yet I'm far from being the dumbest. On the third try on the SAT, I finally got a 1100. I started at a 970. I was so depressed last year when I was taking them because I didn't understand what I was doing wrong. Even my friend who isn't the sharpest crayon in the box got a 1140 on the first try. Blew me away because in high school he only got C's and B's and he tried. But I eventually got into the university I wanted and my grades proved that I was good enough. Right now I did great last semester, got 2 A's, 1 B+, and one B-. My friend (we are living together) got 2 C's, 1 B, and 1 A.

Just some people think differently Nick. I hope you can visit a doctor and see if he can help you at all. I'm not reccomending to get all drugged up, but try to do something about it. :)
