Coul these small quakes at Yellowstone be a sign of the super volcano eruption?

I think the problem comes when the quakes stop - for several years. The pressure builds up and then... massive earthquake leads to massive cracks releasing massive lava!

if you guys get killed, can i have your stuff

Good chance youll be dead too if it actually blows.

None of the good stuff is going to work anyway. You'll need guns, shelter and canned food, not iPods and sports cars.

Not to mention protective goggles, protective clothing, breathing aparatus, water filtration system, and a way to filter air coming into your house. And if all that doesn't work out for have a .45 on hand for a quicker ending.

As mentioned by others, I am still waiting for Dave to come in here and tell me exactly when the big one will hit. He knows exactly when it will happen......

Come on Dave, don't keep it to yourself!

Kinda like how he insisted that it was an earthquake that shifted the foundations for the I-35W bridge collapse? How how about he *KNEW* a tornado was an F5 because the radar image shown online (not live, not on-ground, but what they release to public online), not by damage or anything else. Or how about he *KNEW* Katrina was a Cat5, at least 5 years before NHC.

He's going to own all of us in calling the "big one", like he did in CA when there were some small tremors (he called it, but then that failed too).

I can't wait to see his latest prognostication.

"Could it develop into a bigger fault or something related to hydrothermal activity? We don't know. That's what we're there to do, to monitor it for public safety."

Wait, if they don't know what these quakes mean, how does monitoring them help public safety? It sounds like if something major happens, these guys won't know until it happens and at that point, there won't be much you can do for public safety.

Just to clarify, I am not saying they shouldn't monitor the quakes. I just think that statement doesn't make any sense.

Usually the increase in seismic activity indicates something major is about to take place. This happened in 2003 at Yellowstone as well, so it may be premature to be alarmist. However, if I lived within 600 miles I would move away if I could afford to. With all the geysers and such Yellowstone is better equiped to handle minor pressure increases than a regular volcano. When Old Faithful starts erupting at faster intervals it's probably time to get the hell away.
