Cotton vs Satin vs Silk sheets

Thinking of trying out silk or satin sheets just to see how they feel. I've only used cotton in the past so I'm curious what the difference (if any) there would be in the different materials.

So what do you guys prefer?

Silk and satin are VERY nice, but are more expensive to launder. They SHOULD be dry cleaned, not washed.
Try a good quality cotton sateen. (high thread count egyptian cotton)

I've heard people talk about Egyptian cotton being great to sleep on, I'll have to add that to my list. Which material is cheaper?

cotton
satin
silk

kind of depends on thread count though

Cotton sateen FTW. I got like 800 thread count sheets from BJ's pretty cheap, I love them. Soooooo comfortable. And I topped them off with a $20 clearance comforter from Target 😛

I prefer high thread count cotton. Unfortunately I have to suffer with low thread count (250)cotton so my wife can color coordinate the bedroom since she couldn't find the color she wanted in high thread count. Sleeping in sandpaper FTL!!

1) Be careful with cotton thread counts over ~350 count. There is a big tendancy for companies to change the definition to sound like it is high thread count, and thus the count may not be as high as you think. For example, a thread may be made of 3 fibers, and a sheet may have 200 of those threads in each square inch (100 vertical and 100 horizontal). But is that a 200 thread count (counting threads) or a 600 thread count (counting fibers)? The answer depends on the marketing department of each manufacturer. Generally go for 250-350 thread count cotton, and if you want higher make certain that you aren't being scammed. Once you find the right thread count, quality of the fibers matters more than anything else.

2) Satin can be troublesome to dry skin. Satin and dry skin work like velcro. The dry skin is the hook and the satin is the loop. I personally cannot stand to even touch anything satin due to that effect.

3) I haven't tried silk.

I have a full Satin set on my bed right now. Issues with Satin are:

- Pillows slide about like air hockey pucks
- as mentioned dry skin can catch on it and it can feel odd
- In the summer it can be too hot and sticky

Pros:

- Sexy time is fun in it.
- Looks good
