The Issaquah-based company pays among the highest salaries in the retail industry. A new employee working at one of Costco's warehouses starts with an hourly wage of at least $10. After four years with the company, a cashier can earn around $44,000, including bonuses.
"They're entitled to buy homes and live in reasonably nice neighborhoods and send their children to school," he said during an interview last week at the company's corporate headquarters.
Boy, I bet that second quote just makes Bush wanna cringe. :D

Why would you say that? Defend your statement with some facts and evidence if you can.

Personally it appears that you are a democrat fanboy who would say anything in a poor attmept at Pres. Bush bashing. It doesn't matter if there's a shred of truth to it, you just throw it out there and hope it sticks.

Sorry, but I'm calling you out sonny. Prove there is a logical reason for your statement or go to the troll corner.

Yet Another Anti-Bush Jab because someone is lame. I swear I've never seen so much biased hatred than with these libbies are coming up with these days. Of course they'll tell you that they love all things and wouldn't want to hurt a fly, yet they run around in desperation hating Bush. And all it will lead to is people seeing how much they stand for hate, then when they lose another election they will cry foul and say it is rigged... I could go on, but I think we all know how immature the libbies are.

Costco is one of the most socially irresponsible companies Ive ever seen.

Maybe you should talk to some people in the places they built the stores instead of reading the PR bullsh*t.

Get over yourself.

Yea, cause I run around spewing unwarrented hatred for other people wherever I go and then I cry about things when I'm done.

If I did, I'd just call myself a liberal and post here every minute of the day. :D

As opposed to Wal-Mart...

If they are able to survive, more power to them. Personally, I'd rather work a warehouse job making $10/hour than what... $6.50-7.00 an hour at Wal-Mart, but that's just me.

I'll bet they have less disgruntled employees too.

costco has some of the lowest prices and their return policy is just insane!

I would pick CostCo over walmart and sams club any day of the week, they seem to actually care about their customers AND employees.

nutxo:

Blame your county commissioners and/or zoning board. For instance, Houston didn't have any zoning to speak of in the 1970's (they may now, but I don't know). As a consequence, a titty bar could be built next to a church.

Of course, this would mean MORE GOVERNMENT. You are in favor of more government, right? You are in favor of strict rules for the issuance of building permits, right? You do think builders should pay large impact fees, right? Or, are you entirely bereft of knowledge regarding zoning and thought you'd just dump in this thread?

Very true. This issue is not 100% Costco or any others total fault. They just do the barest minimum they are allowed to get away with.

Instead of having Builder Impact Fees, we the people have to pay for Road and Infrrastrure improvements to actually handle the openings of said Businesses. Government allows this "Cart before the Horse" crap all the time.

While no one suggests "More Government", the "Focus" of existing Government is way out of whack as well has already obviously bloated.

Our Wally World is on the move for the third time.

Each time however it has been in established Commercial Zones so there has been no problem as far as destroying an existing neighborhood. However each timer they move they leave behind a Mamoth empty building and parking lot that has yet to be filled with anything viable.

Their original location now has 1/3 of it a church, 1/3 an arcade that I don't think has survived and the other 1/3 was Helig Meyer Furniture which went Bankrupt last year.

The location they are in now is 1/2 is Lowes Home Improvement store and the other half is the Walmart SuperCenter.

The new location will be even larger than the existing SuperCenter. It was a huge Manufacturing plant across from the local College that all the jobs went to China.

That sounds really familiar, the costco near me is the third built in 12 years.

As for the county. First costco started tearing out a park without approval. Protesting stopped it. Costco tried again. People were finally tired of it more than 200 people showed up at a meeting to protest the rape of a city park for more parking . The council said no. Construction started 2 weeks later... there was no meeting to protest at.

300 homes, 2 stores later ( in the same neighborhood) all the people who cry about wallyworld can buy thier ketchup by the gallon and feel good that costco pays good wages even though it supports the destruction of neighborhoods.

Hypocrites.

oh yeh, my company actually gave us free memberships but I havent gone back nor have about 75% of my friends, and those that do certainly don't talk to me about it :).
