Never apologize for being born in the first world, never feel the slightest ounce of guilt about it. Revel in it and take pride.

Indulge, and laugh mightily as you eat delicious, expensive ice cream in a car with heated seats in the winter...

Get the largest flat screen TV you can afford, then return it and get an even bigger one you can't afford.

Buy a bunch of movies and books and then never get around to watching/reading them.

Enjoy yourself, and give no thought to others.

It would be like beating yourself up for being born a human rather than a mouse, and fretting all the time about how bad mice have it... and how things eat them. Or like spending all of your time agonizing over the infinite planets with intelligent life which have probably died off completely, or the fact that right now somewhere out in the universe there must be an infinite number of aliens being brutally tortured, killed, and enslaved.

Just be glad and grateful you are what you are, when you are, where you are. Your caveman ancestors worked their asses off so you could sit on yours. This was the moment they dreamed of creating for their descendants. Honor their efforts by basking in it.

Second person I've had to say sounds like a sociopath today.

You're terrible for society.

I always chew out my wife for wanting bottled water. Makes no sense to me. We have a fridge that has one of the PUR water filter thingamabobs on it -- they're like $20 a pop I think and last about 6 months.

All she needs to do is take one of the nalgene bottles in the closet and fill it up. But noooooooooooo, she wants to spend money on bottled water. Such a waste!
No wonder she keeps going for bottled water.

I'd never felt a need for bottled water at all, having grown up with well water I just assumed all water tastes good. Only after since having varying qualities of tap water/ filters, am I always on the hunt for spring water on sale. Ozarka, but with almost any brand I find a significant difference between purified & spring to my taste buds anyway. Can't put my finger on it exactly, but sometimes purified has this weird almost laboratory equipment smell, more than taste.

I drink bottled water because it tastes better than tap, and because I believe I can have a reasonable expectation that it has, indeed, been purified in some meaningful way. Even if they start out with tap water, they're obviously putting it through some sort of process to remove contaminants and this pleases me.

Just as important if not more so, is the fact that I drink far more water (and therefore less soda, etc) when I buy bottled. Something about the individualized, self-contained and reliable portion of the bottles encourages me to drink them more...

Going to the sink and just filling a glass with tap water has never felt like a natural experience to me. That's a fault of my own and I wish I wasn't that way, but there you have it.

I drink quite a bit of water also. I have a glass right now by me, straight from the tap like always.

Second person I've had to say sounds like a sociopath today.

You're terrible for society.

You know what I've noticed in the last 5 years or so? Maybe a bit longer than that... but it's really picking up steam.

Douche bags over-using the term sociopath, by about a factor of 5 billion times how often it should actually appear in conversation and discussions.

As to whether it applies to me?

so·ci·o·path [soh-see-uh-path, soh-shee-] Show IPA
noun Psychiatry.
a person with a psychopathic personality whose behavior is antisocial, often criminal, and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.

I would say it does not apply to me because:

1.) I've never committed any crimes other than some virtual swashbuckling and a bit of candy shoplifting on 2 or 3 occasions when I was 13, 20 years ago. I've never even gotten a speeding ticket. Completely clean police record, as in no such record even exists... and not for lack of being caught, but for lack of doing anything.

2.) As for moral responsibility and social conscience? Well, I've worked for environmentalist campaigns, I've donated to World Wildlife Fund on multiple occasions, donated to Planned Parenthood... when I was in the Navy I was the only guy in my division to even fill out the donation form they distribute every few months. I've donated to the presidential finance campaign thing on taxes before...

I've also walked a couple of miles with a dying rabbit wrapped up in my shirt (which was ruined by blood) to try to get it to a vet (admittedly this was many years ago, and the rabbit didn't make it, but I did try) - I've also forced my friends to stop the car and risk us being late to a movie (they were the ones complaining about that consideration, not me) so that I could get out of the car and check on this lady who was in distress, laying in a yard. Turned out she was blind and lost, and lived at a nearby home for disabled people. I got her back there. We made the movie and even caught most of the trailers, btw.

This is really off the topic of this thread of course, but when someone calls me a sociopath I feel it's necessary to respond.

My message which triggered you saying that was clearly written for fun, with tongue firmly in cheek. That should've been obvious to you. Was there some truth to it, in that I actually feel that way to a degree? Yea, there was, to a degree. Sometimes people overstate things for humorous effect.

I didn't get any sense of humor from your comment, though, you sounded dead serious. Too serious for this thread or for my post.

So in conclusion, I may or may not be a sociopath... but you are definitely a douche.

Other than the fluoride and chlorine, the tap water here is great. I find it funny when I look at some water labels "Source: Municipal Water {city}".

You know what I've noticed in the last 5 years or so? Maybe a bit longer than that... but it's really picking up steam.

I don't know if that's right or wrong, but I'm more selective.

Douche bags

You show you have the ability for quality argument, there, and prove my claim wrong.

As to whether it applies to me?

I would say it does not apply to me because:

1.) I've never committed any crimes other than some virtual swashbuckling and a bit of candy shoplifting on 2 or 3 occasions when I was 13, 20 years ago. I've never even gotten a speeding ticket. Reading comprehension - crime is not a required element.

I've donated to the presidential finance campaign thing on taxes before...

And yet, here you are, to pick the quote that summarizes your comments:

give no thought to others.

Bit of a contradiction there. Sociopaths don't 'never do anything good for others'. It's more complicated than that. The quote I just mentioned speaks loudly.

Funny thing, sociopaths also can have an exaggerated concern for animals and babies, I've heard, but not conclusive. Sociopaths can do nice things for some individuals.

Ironically, you make the case for that last point about yourself only.

You say you meant your comments as an exaggeration. I wonder.

You're right my reply took your post at face value, as it sounded, and as I suspect you meant it while hiding behind the 'exaggerated' explanation.

If that's not correct, great. But there's enough there to raise concerns. It's a basically evil comment.

I'm not saying you ARE a sociopath based on that post - more is needed. Just that it sounds like one and raises the concern.

Your post does describe a point of view that many people have and which has a big problem. We need people more concerned with what's good for others.

I suspect exaggerated or not, you will stand more by your post to not be concerned about what's good fo rthe rest of the human race except those close to you.

This is not an issue to debate. You can do what you want with it.

I don't mean literally yell at her, but I try to shame her into realizing that it's stupid.

It is a bit concerning that your icon is that great husband Don Draper, though.

But I applaud you on the water thing.

Reading comprehension - crime is not a required element.

Crime not being a required element doesn't mean it might not be an element I felt like addressing in my response. I understood that it was presented in the definition as a potential factor, and not a universal one. Still felt like addressing it.

Sounds a bit like "well yes she did drown but I've heard some witches will drown and then come back to life three days hence, we should burn the body, because one thing's for sure... I definitely wasn't wrong about her being a witch."

Sounds to me like you've got a pretty neat little racket here where you can call anyone a sociopath or possible sociopath whom you disagree with, and then it's pretty much insulated from any sort of refutation. That's always a great sign of something with a lot of merit and intellectual integrity.

You can think what you like, and you clearly like thinking stupid shit. Who am I to stand in your way?

My last comment to you on this will be what my first and only one should have been: fuck off.

We are not on the same page here. Re-read what you wrote, considering chew as a synonym for eat.

Shockingly, you omit the quote I said was central to the point. Your sort of dodging and attacking and misrepresenting isn't doing anything to make it less likely, only supporting it.
