last year when i actually read the label, it said spring water. (from natural underground springs)

today, i noticed it says purfied water.

guess it's cheaper to just use any water and filter & reverse osmosis it?

Who cares where it comes from. You're paying for the convenience of it being bottled and ready to take.

my guess is that they got sued and then had to change it to say purified instead of spring.

probably before it was 1% spring water 99% purified and they marketed it as spring.

Probably legally they could no longer call rusting underground tanks underground springs :)

Has the taste changed? It used to be good a few years ago but we had to switch to Dasani after Costco changed it formula or source.

Yeah, no bottled water ever came from what most people conceive as a "spring".

That isn't purified water, and can't be labeled as such.

I dunno that I'd put all that much thought into it. Personally, I tried some cheap water from Menards once, and that actually had a very off taste to it. Never had a problem with Costco's water yet, so I'll continue to buy it. Heck, at $.10 a bottle, it's hard to argue with for any reason unless it completely sucks.

The real reason is because they realize many people refer purified water over spring water. Spring water can still contain unwanted contaminates, but purified water is just that, water that has no meaningful amount of contaminates. It is has been purified.

How much is costco water?

I normally just go to walmart and buy a 24 pk for $2.49. Cheap and convenient when I need water on the go.

It's quite possible they changed who they purchase the water from. Costco doesn't run it's own bottled water operation, they just negotiate with an existing bottled water company and slap their label on it. When that contract expires they will see where they can get Costco members the best price and strike a deal with them.

Actually, many springs in florida, where I grew up, have pumping stations for bottled water. This is a pretty big ecological problem, since Florida has had a pretty extended long term drought for years. I avoid spring water because it's no better than reverse osmosis water (which I fill 3 gallon jugs at stations and then put in my water cooler)/

I just drink out of the tap. :)

Less than a cent and just as healthy and tasty, plus much better for the environment.

plastic is recyclable.

It still takes energy to do the recycling. The three R's are: Reduce, Reuse, and then Recycle and you should do them in that order. Recycling is better than nothing (although I would hazard to guess the vast majority of plastic bottles never are), but it is far better to reuse the plastic bottles you already have or just drinking from the tap (same thing that's in that plastic bottle) unless necessary.

I buy bottled water when I'm on a road trip or something, but the vast majority of the time I simply drink tap. I see no convenience gained from drinking from a bottle at the house, but I do see the negative impact it has so I try not to do it.

Anybody who thinks bottled water is wrong ought to try living somewhere where you aren't connected to municipal water. If the power goes out, you have to lug water up from the lake/well, then you have to boil all that water over a fire and then run it through filters. Though I agree there's no need to buy it for just casual drinking.

Costco sells Ozarka over here so I'm not sure how they would switch. Was water you saw Kirkland or something?

Costco water is the cheapest I've seen compared to other bottled water.

It also tastes the best.

We always have some on hand for emergencies but our normal drinking water is straight out the faucet (well water FTW).
