i dont eat red meat or recommend anyone else do so, but who would you buy a frozen burger at costco when you could get a fresh one from the value menu at any fast food joint

Because you can't leave frozen fast food burgers in the freezer at work for immediate consumption anytime.

If it is frozen you should cook the meat on its own first for 45 seconds or so to defrost it. Then cook it with the bread for another 45 seconds or so. If you try to cook the frozen meat with the bread, by the time the meat is cooked the buns will be burnt.

These burgers are GREAT if you defrost in the fridge for a day. Then nuke for 45 seconds and it comes out perfect. They're chargrilled and you can really taste it, they're yummy.

If you cook it frozen or try to defrost in microwave it isn't nearly the same thing. Rock hard bun.

Hmm I don't know how you guys are getting hard buns from frozen. I follow the directions and do

3 min at 30% power
1 min at max power

comes out very good, add condiments and enjoy.

Tastes better than a fast food burger for sure.

"Fresh one?" You realize fast food is made hours before you eat it, right? And before that, it's frozen. And all in all, after being cooked and sitting for awhile before you buy it, those fast food burgers are not fresh in any way shape or form.

Short order food, like Five Guys, is fresh- but then you are paying a lot more for that.

err, no, not all fast food is made hours before you eat it...In fact most fast food places I have been to are made to order.

That is not fast food. The definition of fast food is that it is pre-made. Only if there is a huge crowd and they actually run out of food do they give it to you as soon as it's made.

And even in that best-case, a freshly made burger at a fast food place, made from frozen meat, is not any more fresh than a frozen burger from Costco is after being reheated.

Who told you fast food has to be sitting there for hours?

I am not talking about the quality of the food. Wendy's burger is never frozen, or so they proclaim loudly.

Nothing wrong with frozen beef. Then again, I have never had freshly slaughtered cow meat before. That would be a cool restaurant idea: fresh cow of the day. For variety can bring in baby cows as well.

Would be illegal. Slaughtered cattle has to be frozen for at least 24hrs (I think 24, maybe longer) to kill pathogens.

I think Wendy is referring to the ground beef. It is chilled as opposed to be frozen. Just means they have more frequent delivery. Or more chemicals in beef to keep it fresh

I didn't say it had to be sitting there for hours, I said- The definition of fast food is that it is pre-made. By definition, it's not fresh- unless you just happen to order something they made just moments ago.

As far as Wendy's, that is interesting. I looked it up and it checks out. Of course the reason they make a big deal out of it is because they are the exception to the rule, every other fast food franchises uses frozen beef, so what I said holds up in most cases.

Hate to break it to you guys, but even 'fast food' is a time sink. There is a great smoothie/sandwich shop right next to my office. It's an easy 30mins round trip if there is anyone in line and a good 20 mins otherwise even calling ahead.

I can easily afford to go out, but I'd rather bring something most of the time because it's just easier and just as healthy.

Even a place like Five Guys is probably a lot less healthy than frozen 'gourmet' burgers. I know the chicken burgers I am acting eating now are very good and only little over a buck each.
