This isn't a superhot price however I wonder if it comes with Costco's superhot warranty.

The site specifically says "3-Year Advance Exchange Service" however that is through Dell. I don't think Costco's warranty excludes monitors.

costco's 6month thing is only on computers and laptops. since this isnt either, it should be covered by the lifetime warranty!

Costco's warranty basically: bring it in anytime in the next decade or as long as we are in business and we will replace or give you a new equivalent.

Plus if you get a dead pixel you can get an instant replacement monitor :)

Also isn't there a 2% or 5% cash back option on the executive costco card?

That is what I figured, I was just thrown off by the explicit mention of a 3-year warranty.

The Costco warranty is outstanding. I returned a CD walkman after 6 years because Sony refused to replace it after the 4th RMA. Costco knows how much you paid for it originally so they give you your entire purchase price back. You don't even need the original box.

this would be pretty dang hot if it was lifetime :)

ok this is quite off topic, but does anyone happen to know what costco's warantee would be on the xbox360? I've been thinking about getting one from them just b/c of their return policy b/c I don't want to have to go through something like the Thompson drive feasco w/ the Xbox.

It is life time, as is the game consoles.

Every single thing you buy at costco. Instead of asking what it DOES apply to, why not ask what it DOESNT apply to?

Nothing. (except maybe spoiled food).

Its not a "warranty" per say. Its thier return policy. Return for any reason, no time limit (or you can get money back, the original purchase price).
In fact some people abuse it, they purchase a mp3 player, 3 years later they return it and buy the latest model. Very bad, and if costco ever changes the policy it will be due to fraudsters like that.

So for a large expensive LCD monitor that might have dead pixels, it might be well worth buying it at costco for the extra money, and getting the peace of mind that you can return it at any time if something goes wrong.

The only exclusion is computers where they "only" have a 6 month return guarantee.

You can even return spoiled food.

As far as the fraudsters, since you have to purchased something on a membership card it is easy for Costco to track down the abusers and revoke their membership.

Jombo: If you can prove its for personal/student use, sometimes you dont even have to pay customs. I spent some time in germany, and I filled out some papers about me being a student over there, and I was able to bypass most of the customs fees when I shipped my computer over there. Back then it was CRT monitors only pretty much, so I skipped shipping that since it was so heavy, and just bought another monitor over there. And yes, I was actually over there for school purposes.
Also, you need a membership card to buy stuff at costco. I dont think they give out 1 or 2 day passes very often, usually you just have to buy a year membership.

McPhreak: I wasn't aware they had an exclusion for computers. Its about time they added one. People can always do the manufactures warranty for computers, that should cut down on some of the problems with abusers.

Just curious, what is the typical "hot deal" price for this from Dell when it has those great coupons. I'm trying to decide whether or not I should pay the premium for the "Costco Insurance".

Anywhere from $700-$800 is the decent hot deal price from what I've seen. I think the $700 price happened once last year.

edit: I was checking SD forums (didn't see too much here at AT searching subjects in hot deals forum for 2405fpw and 2405), and I saw one thread for $740 and one for $780. So I was about right. There were also some cases where people were able to buy a dell system with a LCD and sell the dell system and keep the 2405 LCD for around $500, but that involves some additional hassle.

Aren't you guys worried about buying this with the new vista-supported dell monitors (including the 30") coming out soon? I've got a $300 gift card to costco so this is almost too good to pass up. But im worried about them becoming obsolete pretty quickly.

Well, if you're not planning to play HD content on the display then you won't have any thing to worry about.

Besides, with Costco's great return policy you could just return the unit and exchange it for an HDCP compatible one once they become available.
