Am I just pissed or was Costas really annoying during the beginnig of the "art" section of the Opening Ceremonies?
 
That's probably because he HAD to read the material prepped for him. It's not like he could sit there and speak his mind about a Lakers game. The entire ceremony is VERY scripted. Very little free thought banter.
 
i could have done without ALL the commentary during the opening ceremonies. just STFU so i can watch the pretty costumes and choreography (sp).
 
I remember he did a good job during one of the World Series, but tonight it seemed that the play-by-play commentary was over the top.

I hate how Costas is the Swiss Army Knife of sportscasters - he talks like he knows everything there is to know about sports.
 
Personally I think Costas is a great sports announcer. He and Al Michaels are my favorite. But this wasn't a sporting event. They should have gotten the people that announce at the Rose Bowl parade or something. JMO.

Couric was who got on my nerves mroe, but I don't like her anyway. Never could watch her show in the mornings.

NE1 see the Costos/Vince McMahon interview on Bob Costas' HBO Show? Man, McMahon was a true ASS. Yelling and pointing at Costas. What a jerk.

I never have really liked Costas as a commentator on all sports, but I like him for Baseball.
 
Costas even mentioned those Evil Axis Nations(or something like that) when Iran came out.
Is that how we promote world peace at a supposed peaceful event?

Then he went on commenting on those nations that has no chance of winning medals
so at the open ceremony is their only chance to shine.

You did hear the questions Costas asked Vince, right? Or did they manage to cut and paste it to make Vince look like an @$$?

reminds me of that last opening ceremonies where he commented on China as an oppressive goverment

but for the most part, Costas is hilarious, articulate, quick witted, and incredibly knowledgable about a variety of subjects (he interviews folks for dateline, so it's not just sports)

i agree with the Couric-haters out there, just too perky and that lame-o sense of humour
 
Yeah, the country bashing those two did during the opening ceremonies was pretty lame. My family sat around to watch it and we all burst out laughing when Couric said that Australia wouldn't have a chance to win any medals at all, not in those words of course. She was talking about their uniforms being banana's or something, then proceeded to say that their medal hopes wouldn't be too fruitful in the olympics. We couldn't believe they actually said a lot of that crap.
 
I agree, I don't need or want to hear every little part of the ceremony explained. They (NBC) did the same thing at the Summer Olympics in 2000. Totally lame.

And putting down other countries is even worse. It just reinforces the stereotype that all Americans are egotistical and one-sided. Even if what the commentators say is true, politics should be left behind as much as possible regarding the actual Olympic events.
 
Man, that ceremony commentating was pathetic!

"Shut your stupid hole Costas!" ----me yelling at the TV. (actually coouldn't watch anymore after some of the comments)

I think the "evil axis" comment was a jab at the President....they probably disagree with him, and the more exposure it gets, they believe it will make W. look bad. Just my opinion...

Edit: O-yeah, did you hear the little tantrum Costas had when no-one gave him his script and the sound came on before he knew it? He was like, "WHAT AM I DOING?" Then there was the embarassment afterwards, silence, and a subtle apology telling viewers that they didn't know what was going on and they are just "winging" it. What a joke!
 
At least you don't have Brian Williams broadcasting for your national network. He asks the most ridiculous questions i've ever heard a sports announcer ask. Not to mention he was blabbing all the way through the opening ceremonies.

He was chatting with one of our best figure skaters (Elvis Stojko) who has been to 4 olympic games as a competitor. What does he ask him? "Have you ever been to an opening ceremony, or is this your first?"

No, he skipped it the FIRST THREE TIMES. DUH!

What a dumbass. :|
 
I like Bill Walton and that black guy (name is at the tip of my tongue right now)during NBA games. He's always pointing out how much of a moron Bill Walton can be and his inconsistencies. This is coming from a Bill Walton fan, I like his comments 😉

And yes, Costas was (and always is) extremely annoying. He has an annoying arrogance about him.

Also annoying is Jayson Williams during NBA on NBC. He's always trying to crack some dumb-@ss joke. He's like a comic trying way too hard and laughing at his own jokes.
