Cost of transmission and engine swap jobs?

The situation is I totalled a 1996 Probe, but it's mechanically in acceptable condition. So, I could buy a 93-97 Probe from Honest John and not really care if every single component fails, because I have parts already. The thing I'm concerned about is labor. How much should it generally run to replace a transmission or engine, assuming no cost in parts?
 
Really depends on who does the work. My brother had an engine swapped in his old Saab and only payed like $300. It was done at the local junk yard. Only took a day and the car ran for a year before a driver ran into him and totalled the car.

You can't drive it home in your broken down car, though. It's only useful to be able to rent one if you have a truck, and the truck is not the vehicle that you're working on.
 
I hope you are getting that Probe for nothing those cars are problematic, but not as bad as your T-bird. :disgust:
