So, I see alot of people complaining about how expensive it is to get crappy apartments in California, or other places around the USA, so I just wanted to post a thread with the opposite news. I am graduating from college next week and got a job and all and was looking at one bedroom apartments around where I will be working. And as it turns out If you want a 1 bedroom apartment its $300-$450, yes thats right the FANCY ones are $450 (I'm sure fancy is a relative term here 😛), and you can get 2 bed 2 bath duplex and stuff for under $500 a month. I just sorta thought that was funny. And to buy a 4 bedroom house they are going for like $150,000. So I guess maybe when all those people post threads about how $100,000 isn't enough to get by maybe they should move over here 😛.

The place in question is Athens TN btw, its like 80 miles from any real city which sux, but at the same time I'll be making $60,000 a year and paying $400 a month for rent 😛.

Well, there you go. 🙂
I'm two hours from Green Bay, WI (closest "large" city). It's really not that bad, you find things to do or make things to do. If I thought about it, if I lived in Houston where I'm working now, what would I do different? Nothing, besides have more places to eat. I'd still hang out with my friends and do the same ol shit probably.

Cool man. Hopefully you can build a nest egg and pay off student loans, and not blow it all on booze and cheap women. Or women and cheap booze. No, wait.... booze and cheap women. Yeah, that sounds right.

yeah, well how many women you think live in a crapy little redneck town like this 🙁?
There are dozens but they all look alike............Wait thats because they are mother/daughter/sister/cousin

I lawl'd.

It is all about location and what you want out of it.

I could have had an enormous house back home with land and anything else (within reason) I wanted for what I paid for my condo. However having the nation's 3rd largest city on my doorstep affords opportunities that outweigh the cost IMO.

As a minority it helps to live in the city. If I lived in that hickville I would:

*Miss Korean food all too bad. I bet the only 'ethnic' food the town has is the crappy 'Chinese' take out type food and Taco bell.

*Probably get stared at wherever I go.

*WTF is there to do in TN seriously? I live close to Boston, I can...
-Hit up free promotional party nights across most bars,
-Attend culture shows
-Theater (Blue Man Group, Phantom, etc)
-Dine at Top of the Hub enjoying the breathtaking skyline view of Boston
-Museums, museums and museums: (GF loves this) of Science, Fine Art, Contemporary Art, etc. There are always shit happening in the city.
-People seeing, sight seeing in Boston Common
-Red Sox (Going to the game tonight actually!), Celtrics, Bruins and Patriots
-ALWAYS STUFF TO DO.

For the record I pay an amazing $420 for rent and my room is fvcking enormous. Similar to what you pay + all the fun benefits

Haha! One of my Korean friends used to have to work somewhere in one of the Carolinas a lot as part of his consulting job. People stared at him and asked a bunch of stupid questions. "You're Korean? WTF is that? It's a country? Huh?"

He eventually got sick of it and just started saying he was Hawaiian.

I had a dumbass hick cop pulled me over once (right 30 mins outside of Boston too!!! WTF) and asked me what nationality I was. He comes back and says, "What's Korea? Is that Vietnam? I didn't see it on the drop down menu." Dumbass 40K-for-life idiots.

<-- Dude this is another Korean who met a cop that thought Korea was Vietnam (see above). If you are white, you seriously don't know what minorities go through and just how hick these hickvills get.

Tst..tst...tst...you young grass hopper is wrong again.

You paid for part of the rent <share with roomate(s). You didn't get the whole apartment like he is. There is no way you are paying that little for a whole apartment in a nice area in Boston.

Around here <down South>, the rent is about $500 <decent> to $900 <luxury> for 1 bed apartment.

BTW, didn't know you are Korean. Are you sure? You sure didn't make a lot of good decisions in life...I thought you were white 😀

"Asian" would have been the correct answer.

Dude I make the same and I am prolly consider low income here. Shit I was looking at homes and found like 900-1100 sq home close to downtown for 220k... I thought the guy is out his mind.

I pay $700 for rent everything included, and 2 miles from downtown.
