$50 here in Queens, NY, man we are not far away. This $50 includs everything: one 24/7 running XP2500+ OC 3200 box with 19" CRT, 9800pro and 3 HDs, plus fridge, TV, lights, another PC, one Mac with 17" CRT, one notebook.
 
How about if i use a WOL solution - or is that out of date. I was thinking of perhaps keeping the machine off most of the time until I needed data from it. I dont mind waiting for the boot time. Is there a better way??
 
It's been humid the past few weeks. This makes the AC have to work a lot harder.

Air conditioning most likely accounts for almost your entire electric bill.
