Anybody here work with 3d printers? Was thinking about looking into what a low end one of these might cost. I was thinking my company could have some use for it when creating 3D CAD models of new construction. This would let us actually print off a composite model.

These things look pretty damn cool. Seems like the biggest limitation is the build envelope though. Biggest one out there is like 21" I think and I'm sure the bigger envelope makes it wicked expensive. Would be a slick tool to build actual models of our CAD drawings to present to planning boards for approvals.

I'll have to do some more looking into these.

Not cheap, but I don't know their price but http://www.zcorp.com/en/Products/3D-Printers/spage.aspx are some of the best from what I remember reading. They can even print objects with movable parts and different colors.

Here is a thread we had about their printers not too long ago either.

Saw them at a design show once. They were showing off their $3K printer. Looked pretty good. The tech has come a long away in the last 10 years.

We have a zcorp printer, while it's really cool it was used like 50 times in the first month and then once a year after that.

IMO you're better off finding a local company where you can pay them to print it.

'3d printer'? what?

isn't that called a 'CNC machine'? apparently one that just cuts plastic?

edit: wait some of these links are not like the others. the thing in the other thread was pretty neat.
