My gf is looking at a newer car, to get the loan at a decent rate she needs a cosigner. I dont think her parents will, and since we are not married or engaged I dont want to do it either. She assures me that if I ever needed to I could force the payments on her if we broke up, and she would sign I contract from my saying I could sue her if she ever stopped making payments.

I still dont want to and she knows I do not, but she does need a newer car since her car sucks right now. Without me cosigning the loan would be at probably 20% APR or something crazy cause she has a bankruptcy on her record.

Edit: Thanks for making me come to my senses, we talked about it for a little while and I said no. Thanks again for the help atot

No.

You think she'd care about screwing up your credit if you broke up?

If her parents won't do it, and that's assuming there's unconditional love, then HELL NO.

No.

She can save up some money and buy an older car. Trust me, breaking up with a girl you live with is a pain in the ass enough, I can't imagine what crap you'd be dealing with. Do not put your credit on the line for this girl.

No no no no no. No. God no. Please... for the sake of the children. No.

No.

edit: You are an idiot for even having to ask this question in the first place.. but I didn't feel the need to say that until I read she has a bankruptcy on her record and you're still thinking about it. When you two break up, come back to this thread and read this reply. You'll nod your head in agreement.. "I was an idiot.."

When you break up and she stops paying the loan, are you going to be happy paying her car payment in order to save your credit? I didn't think so. Don't offer and if she asks, say no.

If you really love her and she gives you anal for it, then go for it.

BAD: Girlfriend whose parents don't trust her enough to cosign
WORSE: Said girlfriend is bankrupt
WORST: You're still thinking about helping her out

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

If she really loved you she wouldn't put you in this spot. Get real, man.

How long have you two been together? How expensive a car are we talking about?

Even if you decide to throw out your few remaining IQ points out the window and go through with this, buy the car in your name only. Make her pay you every month. That way, if she bails on you, you can sell the car and cut your losses.

Go ahead, it will be entertaining in a few months when you come back screaming how your credit is f'd.

He can get anal for much less than the price of a car.
