Damn....what a sweet car...its a tough call between the ZR-1 and the Audi R8 as the best new car of 08!

Yeah it is considering the R8 came out in 2007 and the ZR-1 is a MY2009 😉

I'd say the GT2 is more impressive than the R8 and should compete nicely with the ZR1, or at least try.

That 205mph video is insane. Made me nervous just watching it even though the car was so stable. 😀

Insanity is the best way to describe it.

Passing that semi (looked like a bus to me) at 200+ would make me a little nervous too...

I would bet to say the track has alot to do with that. That track has to be supersmooth and we know that Germany can do that. Look how shitty our NASCAR tracks are, we don't put the effort into the quality of roadways.

All in all I was hoping to see the car lift off the ground and the end and flip up just like F1's.

Impressive, but there's one thing that slightly bothers me about this whole ZR-1 project.

Power.

Everyone knows that it's child's play to grab a Viper or Vette, and throw a roots kit on it, and blammo, you can run 800+hp pretty easy (with some other smaller tweaks/bolt-ons to go with it.). The stock motor internals on the 5.7/6.0/8.0/8.3 are more than up to the task.

So the rest of the ZR-1 (massive brakes, weight reduction) is a really expensive undertaking for the returns given. If anything, I don't think the Vette needed to lose any weight.

I guess the ZR-1 is first and foremost, a collector/prestige vehicle. I think anyone who had $100k to spend, and wanted a damned fast Vette, could do $65k on a Z06, and even $20k in mods would put it into the 1000hp range.

It didn't, it gained ~150lbs.

I agree though, power is useless without control.

There's a difference between a tuner car and a stock GM car. A tuner car (and many exotics) is made to run good in good conditions. A stock GM car is made to be treated like a wolf released into the wilds of Arizona and expected to survive into old age. A tuner car doesn't undergo 1/10th of the testing that GM's put the ZR-1 through.

I'm not knocking the tuners and exotics, but it's just a different ball game between them. If a 1000HP twin turbo Viper engine blows, someone just pushed the limit too hard too long. If an LS9 blows, it's a warranty call and bad press on a flagship model.

While I completely love the 'Vette, as long as I drive something that has 115HP and out-accelerates it while getting within 30mph of it's top speed, I still won't buy one.

You're forgetting one very key aspect of that though. And that's how long it takes to get there. Heck, my Expedition can do 110. As fast as many cars. But it takes almost a minute and a half to get there.

He's talking about a motorcycle.

Correct. Sorry for not being specific. Though how you might have confused "out accelerates it" and "how long it takes to get there" as two different things did kind of catch me offguard.
